After eating, all the food they could ever imagine, a man named Janson came and lead them somewhere new. He had a long face, deep brown eyes and brown hair that was beginning to turn a silvery grey. Aria came to the conclusion that he looked like a rat, deciding to nickname him ratman. He had claimed that he was the reason they were all still alive and promised to keep them safe from WCKD, but something about his tone made Aria feel uneasy. Janson informed the group that there would be nothing left of their homes. That news alone was enough to sadden everyone. All they ever wanted was to know where they came from. To know who they were before the maze.
"Why are you helping us?" Minho asked the vital question, his hands grasped tightly with Aria's.
"Let's just say the world out there is in a rather precarious situation. We're all hanging on by a very thin thread. The fact that you kids can survive the Flare virus makes you the best chance of humanity's continued survival. Unfortunately, it also makes you a target, as no doubt by now you've noticed." Janson stopped at two large double doors, swiping a key car to open them. "Beyond this door lies the beginning of your new lives."
"Or the end." Aria muttered to herself, not believing a word coming out of his mouth. Ariella had finally lost hope.
"First things first, let's do something about that smell." he smirked.
"You two girls follow me." A new voice spoke. Aria had almost forgotten about Teresa.
"Wait, what?" Minho looked confused. He was on high alert, not ever wanting to be separated from Ella again.
"We have separate showers for the girls and boys. Those are the rules. Don't worry you'll be reunited soon enough." Janson told them, but the gladers remained unconvinced.
"Don't worry, we'll be fine." Ella promised him, placing a light kiss on his cheek before following the soldier.
"You two are cute together." Teresa smiled as the two girls walked side by side.
"He's alright, I guess." Ariella joked. "You and me have to stick together."
Teresa nodded, sending the blonde a small smile as they went into separate shower cubicles next to each other. Ariella welcomed the refreshing feeling of the warm water dripping down onto her body. Red drops trickled down, any remains of Gallys blood being washed away. Aria let her tears fall, her emotions drowning her. She missed her brother more than anything and the only person to blame for his death was her.
The blonde came out from the shower, changing into the new clothes laid out for her. She was now earring a grey coloured tank top, paired with some light coloured cargos. Another soldier came in, leading the girls to what appeared to be some sort of medical wing. The two walked past the boys being tested, Minho was on a tread mill running, Thomas having his blood drawn.
"You girls wait here, Dr Crawford will be here shortly." The soldier informed the two before leaving them alone.
"I have a bad feeling about this." Aria admitted, not liking how they always seemed to be separated from the boys.
'You okay?' Thomas mouthed to the blonde, her only nodding in reply before a tall dark hair woman walked in, closing the curtains.
"You must be Ariella and Teresa. I'm Dr Crawford." The woman smiled tightly as she introduced herself. Her dark curly hair was pulled back in a bun and she was dressed in smart clothes with a white lab coat over the top.
"You girls seem to be in pretty good shape, but we're gonna have to run some more tests on you."
The woman cleaned up their cuts and any other injuries they may have. Aria, finally getting better treatment for her wrist. Dr Crawford then led the two through the maze of hallways, passing the cafeteria on their way. Thomas and Minho caught her eye as they stood, trying to talk to them through the windows but the guards just pushed them away.
