"So you want to be an Admiral, huh, you little shit?" he suddenly muttered, looking at her with his hands behind his head, his face expressionless except boredom as he relaxed on the lounge.

"Yes," Leona said with a sigh, closing her eyes. She stood a little ways away from him on the ship's bow deck, her hands clasped behind her back. "You've probably heard this about... I don't know, at least 10 times, I'd bet. People talk about it all the time." she said, turning sideways to him, looking at him with dark eyes and a blank expression.

"mhm" only Blue Pheasant murmured, pulling the blindfold over his eyes, shifting on the deckchair as if he was getting ready for a nap. Which was very possible.

"That's it?" she asked with slight irritation, tilting her head. "You've been on my ship for almost a week now, doing nothing but sleeping or staring with that stupid face. What do you mean? Why are you here?" she asks again during his stay on her ship. She stopped counting how many times she asked it, not expecting to get an answer like every other time.

She expected him to mutter something about women again, turn over and fall asleep, with no further conversation left.

She was wrong.

"And why do you want to become an Admiral?" he asked dispassionately, showing no interest.

She froze, not expecting his continued conversation, much less this question. All the answers that came to her mind weren't answers she would give to anyone, weren't answers worth saying, weren't answers anyone wanted to hear, knowing she wanted to be an Admiral. It wasn't something she would ever say.

"Why do you want to know?" she asked dispassionately, returning her gaze to the sea. It was calm, no waves. Light wind, cloudless sky. There was no sight of land approaching.

Because that's what my grandfather wants.

He did not answer. She waited a while longer, maybe a few minutes. Or maybe it was a moment, but it's time was prolonged because of the silence he treated her with.

Because that's what he expects from me.

"It's my dream," she finally answered his question, remaining as dispassionate as before.

Because I don't know what else I would do.

There was silence again.

"I doubt you admire us that much," he finally said, yawning and stretching his arms above his head, crossing his legs.

Because I can't do anything else.

"Nothing to admire. You suck as Admiral," she commented bluntly. "I would be better."

Because someone has to.

"You're still a piece of shit," he said without much reaction to her words, remaining bored. "And like a piece of shit, you don't know anything. You don't know anything and you say big words, just like any other shit, blinded by your own nose."

Because my brothers will not become Admirals.

She remained silent, pursing her lips.

"You are blinded by a perfect vision," he continued dispassionately. "A vision that does not exist and will not exist. Open your eyes and think again, how could you possibly be better than us?"

Because there is nothing else in me.

"In many ways," she finally said through gritted teeth. "Stronger. Smarter. I would make good decisions, fair ones. And not like yours, like your poor demonstration of what justice is."

''Marine genius'' he muttered dispassionately, and yet it sounded like a mocking attack.

"What's your problem, huh? " Leona asked darkly, looking at him with piercing eyes, clenching her hands into fists behind her back.

"None," he muttered. "I'm just watching you deceive yourself."

Leona looked at him in silence for a long time. For a long time and in silence, she just watched. Her irritation with him was replaced with thoughtfulness. Deep in thought as she analyzes his words, putting her emotions aside.

"I used to be like you," he began after a long time. " I thought that if I stood at the very top, if I was the strongest, I would change the world. That I will be better than my predecessors, that everything... will make sense. It didn't fool me."

She listened to him carefully and also observed him. She saw that he wanted to say more, that his words had more meaning than you might think at first glance. But he remained silent.

"I'm different from you," she finally said, with some unexpected energy. "I'll make it. The way I will change the world... you will be surprised when you see it. Everything will make sense. And then you will be a fool. " she said, a twinkle in her eyes.

She will become something more. Something more than they expected, something greater than they thought could become. She would become something that would blow their mind, something... just something.

Because she wants to change the world.

Yes, that sounds like a noble and worthy reason to become an Admiral.
