The sailors emerging from Leona's wing were great. They were excellent soldiers and could not be accused of lack of skill. But what about a soldiers who doesn't listen to his superiors? That's what they were like.
Leona had already been summoned to the base by Sengoku once. As in most cases, it was about her student.
It was such a trivial reason for her that she allowed herself to be a week late.
She walked confidently down the corridor along a well-known path. The sound of her shoes echoed down the empty, depressingly gray corridor.
She finally came to a large, brown door that led to the meeting room where Sengoku was currently staying. She didn't care that she might disturb him.
She pushed the door open, ignoring the soldier who told her that there was an important meeting with the Sea Warriors inside. She didn't care.
She went inside and quickly looked around. Kuma, Pink Flamingo, Weird Corpse, and Mihawk took their seats at the table, leaving space between them. This space was most visible after everyone sat far away from Sengoku.
"Apart from the fact that you're interrupting our meeting" Sengoku started when he noticed her " you were supposed to be here a week ago."
"I know," Leona said casually, approaching the table.
"Still the same" Sengoku sighed.
"Hello, Leona," Kuma said.
"Yo. " She raised her hand in greeting.
She sat down at the table, next to Mihawk, ignoring the presence of the rest of the gathered people.
"What are you thinking, brat?" Moria asked in an angry voice.
"Absolutely nothing, old man," she said, looking him straight in the eyes.
The flamingo started laughing.
"Enough," Sengoku said. "We'll talk in the evening, Leona."
"Let's just get this over with quickly," Leona said, rolling her eyes. "You have a problem with another one of my students, because they don't listen. Give them good captains, and there won't be any problems. I taught them not to follow an idiot to death, so respect that they have brains and know how to use them," she said resentfully. "Well, at least most of them," she added after a moment.
"These are soldiers" Sengoku said slowly. "They should follow their commander, even if it means going to death."
"These are People" Leona said in the same tone. "And their lives are so valuable that they should not sacrifice them without a reason."
"At least their bodies are useful for something," said Corpse Pervert, but he was ignored.
They looked at each other in silence. They looked at each other without blinking, as if they were fighting a battle to see who would blink first.
"Who are you talking about this time, huh?" she asked, glaring at him.
"This is —"
"Big sister!" a voice called joyfully from the doorway, its owner was immediately next to her, shaking her hand.
"Mak, I'm glad to see you too, but sit quietly at the table" she asked, looking into his joyful, large, bright eyes.
He knelt by her with a wide smile, his fair skin seemed to reflect the sun, and his small face was framed by thick, well-groomed hair. He left them untied again, making him look like a white lion.
"Anything for you, sister!" he said, taking a seat right next to her.
He looked at her again and gave her a wide smile. He just turned his gaze away from Leona, looked around the room with his blue eyes, and his aura turned menacing and his face was deadly indifferent.
"You still think that —"
"This is one special case that doesn't use its brain" interrupted Sengoku Leona. "Mak, get over your ass and listen, you're causing problems for me" she said scoldingly to the boy.
"I didn't mean to cause you any trouble, please forgive me," he begged her, holding her hand again. "But i can't listen to these weaklings. They should all die."
"Mak, we talked about this" Leona scolded him.
–"We don't kill people," Mak said cheerfully. "Most of the time," he added with a wider smile.
"Okay, okay," she said, patting his head, much to his delight.
"Leona," Sengaku interrupted warningly.
"You see, he doesn't listen to me about this either. What am I supposed to do?" she shrugged.
"My sister is the only person I can serve under," Mak declared firmly.
"Can you finally finish this? That's not why I came here," Mihawk interjected in a calm tone.
"Sorry, I have problems with troublesome people, give me a moment" Leona said with a smile, then turned to Sengoku:
"Give him a crew."
"What?"
Everyone in the room looked at her like she was crazy.
"Give anyone you want there - outcasts, freaks, foundlings. Whoever you want. This time, you won't be disappointed," she said with a defiant smile.
"What are you planning, D. Monkey?" Sengoku asked seriously.
"I? Absolutely nothing" she snorted, amused. "Mak is my student, he is a genius. By putting him under the command of anyone he considers weak, you are wasting his potential. you're wasting his potential" she said in a pretentious tone.
"Interesting," Flamingo said with a laugh.
"How can I give a crew to someone so unpredictable?" Sengoku asked incredulously.
"Normally," she replied, shrugging. "If he doesn't want to serve under anyone, let him rule. Easy. Let him be the Colonel, then he will be the one giving orders, and if anything happens, I can take care of it. Isn't this a good solution for all of us?"
Sengoku looked into Leona's calm, confident eyes and thought. He knew her well, her knowledge and skills. So many times she led the mission with a winning hand, without major losses, even when her crew should have lost. She never failed and never made a bad decision. After all, she was a Navy genius.
"If something happens" Leona began after a long silence " I will take responsibility. So trust me, okay?" she asked in a quiet voice.
Sengoku sighed and smiled crookedly.
"If you think it's a good decision, so be it," he said. "I trust your judgment skills."
"Thanks, boss," she said, relaxing, then turned to the white-haired boy. " You do something crazy and I will never talk to you again in my life, do you understand?"
"Whoa, my lady, you can't be serious," Mak exclaimed, devastated.
"Can we continue our meeting?" Mihawk asked with a sigh.
