"Follow me."
When Vincent got up, it was still dark. He got dressed, did his morning exercises, and planned his deputy's duties.
He posted his orders on the board, drank the last of that nasty black coffee, and headed for the Vice Admiral's quarters. He hoped his mistress was finally asleep.
He opened the door quietly. He froze when he saw Leone awake. She was sitting on the bed, slightly hunched over. Light undershirt, half covered with a duvet, her uneven hair was messy and covered her face.
"I will guide you."
He closed the door quietly behind him, approaching the woman.
"Vice Admiral?" he asked quietly.
He saw no reaction. He looked at her hand, seeing it slightly red and bitten.
He moved closer and knelt by the bed, getting a view of her face. Her eyes were so lifeless. He wanted to reach out to her, but stopped himself.
Do not be afraid.
"Vice Admiral," he said louder.
Leona looked at him. Her eyes were relaxed. And these big dark circles under my eyes. She looked so weak.
"I am the strongest."
She looked so tired. So empty.
"You won't have any worries."
His breathing was shallow and he didn't move. He was afraid as if the slightest movement would take her life.
"Leave everything to me, I'll take care of it."
"Vin," she said, her voice hoarse.
She blinked her eyes as if she had just noticed him.
"Everything will be fine, Vin, that's why..."
She smiled gently. She raised her hand and ran it through his blond hair. He blinked his eyes rapidly.
"Don't worry Vin, it's nothing."
She ran her hand from his hair to his cheek. She stroked it with her thumb.
"Give me a moment, let's have breakfast together."
He just nodded, feeling a lump in his throat.
"...so, smile."
"What should I do, Vin?"
