It's been a week since Coach Harris and I had that talk. I haven't missed any practice since. Starlie stayed with Elena all week on the hours I was there so that I didn't have to take her with me.
Now, she's back home. I'm missing her already. I just wish I could see her and hang out with her more often, it sucks being far away from Star and having to watch her grow up from afar.
However, I can't think about that right now, I have to focus on basketball.
In the past few days, I've been making a bigger effort to leave my personal life behind when I step onto the court. It's not easy, especially with the memory of Coach Harris's concern lingering in the back of my mind.
He noticed something was wrong, that's how much I let my personal shit get in the way.
During practice, I throw myself into every drill, pushing myself harder than ever before. My friends notice it and keep encouraging and supporting me as we work together.
And slowly, I begin to regain the focus and determination that Coach Harris had noticed slipping away.
With each passing day, I feel myself growing stronger, both mentally and physically, making basketball a priority in my life, as it's always been, until lately.
I'm gonna get there, I tell myself, I'm gonna make it to NBA.
As practice winds down, I catch sight of Oliver, making his way towards me.
I can sense him coming here to bug me about tonight and telling me how he needs me to get ready fast and meet him after.
"I just have to go home, take a shower and I'll meet you at your place in 2 hours. I didn't forget I promised I would go to that bar with you and Jake." I say, before he can torture me.
"That's not why I'm here, calm your tits."
It's not?
"What's up then?" I ask curiously.
"I noticed you and Coach Harris having a chat the other day," Oliver says, "You've been kinda off since then, is everything okay?"
"Yeah, it's just some personal stuff, don't worry about it." I reply, trying to brush it off.
"Personal stuff?" Oliver says, looking unconvinced. "Who's been on your mind, Theo?"
"Who's been on my mind? What do you mean?"
"You think I don't know when you like someone? We've been friends since we were 5 years old. I know you better than anyone."
It's true, he does know me better than anyone. However, I don't want to talk about this. Especially not with Oliver.
"Well, you're wrong. I'm not into anyone." I lie.
"Come on, Theo. You can tell me. Who's been on your mind?"
