"hey, i don't think this is a good idea anymore." a tall man says, as his two friends push him forward in the long line.
despite his face being blocked from your view, you can tell that he's pouting. everyone says that this rollercoaster ride is manageable, the amount of children that are in line for the ride proves that, so you have no clue why this guy is having such a hard time right now.
"you're the one who suggested it." the friend on his left reminds him.
"you'll be fine, mingyu. you've got us." the friend on his left chimes in, grinning from ear to ear.
"yeah, but i'm not so sure about this." the tall man, mingyu, expresses his worry for a second time.
he inches closer and closer to you with each step that he takes backwards. it seems like he's planning to make a run for it.
he's going to bump into me if he keeps going backwards.
with every step that he takes backwards, you do the same. you realize that you run the risk of running into the person that's directly behind you, so you decide that it's probably best if you just wait for mingyu to bump into you.
you extend your hand, waiting for his back to collide with it. the impact is less severe than you expected it to be, but you still find yourself getting annoyed.
"sorry, i didn't mean to bump into you." mingyu apologizes to you immediately after he runs into you.
it's as if he knew that i was one second away from getting upset.
just before turns around and goes back to trying to convince his friends that he shouldn't get on the rollercoaster ride, you find yourself giving him some advice. "if you don't want to get on the rollercoaster ride, you don't have to. you know that, right?"
he plants his feet on the ground, then looks at you like he's really weighing his options.
"i'm not scared to get on the rollercoaster, i just don't want to." mingyu finally speaks after looking at you for some time.
you find yourself laughing, just before you see the effect that your laugh has on him.
did my laugh just make him smile?
"okay, i believe you." you settle on saying this.
"it's just that hoshi and the8 won't let me hear the end of it if i don't get on this ride." he bends down to say this to you, partly because he doesn't want his friends to hear what he's saying and because he's engulfed in embarrassment.
"come on, the line's moving." the friend who told him that this was his idea tells him.
both of his friends pull him forward, and his window of opportunity is getting smaller and smaller by the second.
after a few more people get off the ride, you and the three strangers in front of you become the next set of people to get into the seats.
the seats are spaced out to fit four people comfortably next to each other. somehow, you end up on sitting right beside mingyu. he looks up to the sky and mutters something unintelligible to himself.
oh my goodness, i finally figured it out. he must be scared of heights.
