FLASHBACK

Your heart dropped when Tenko's bedroom door swung open with a loud thud and his dad came barreling in grabbing him by his collar with an abrupt shake.

"Playing hero again?" He grunted as he began to pull him away from you.

"And with her once more? When will you ever listen to me?!"

"Kotaro, that's enough! Stop hurting him!" His mom yelled as Tenko tried to loosen the hold on his shirt.

"No! No Dad!" He cried as he pulled another painful yank on his shirt and he winced at the sharp discomfort.

"It was my fault" You quickly butted in, your voice cracking.

"You?" His dad's voice became dangerously low, eyes narrowed.

You took in a steady breath. "Yes, sir. "

"No, it isn't! Dad it was me, I dragged Y/N into this."

Mr.Shimura pulled his son by the hair, pushed him into a closet as he locked him in there, "I don't care whose fault it was, you're in trouble."

"And you, leave now." He said to you, not even bothering to glance your way.

"No!" Tenko shouted through the door. Despite everything, he had never really considered hating his dad, but there were some lines he didn't want him to cross, and that involved anything having to do with you "Don't kick her out dad! Her parents aren't home yet, and she hasn't had dinner!"

"I don't care, she's their responsibility, not mines. Now get out."  He began to grab you by the arm as he pulled you out.

"You can't-" You swallowed the lump in your throat and a jolt of anger ran through your entire body, "You can't leave him in there, he's your son!"

"What did you say?"

"Kotaro please." Tenko's mom cried as you watched her hands trembled, "Don't do this, not in front of Tenko's friend."

Your cheeks were beginning to sting from all the tears. It wasn't fair. His dad could take all the shots he wanted, because everyone in the family had to listened to him and therefore he could get away with whatever.

As he took you outside the house, he hovered over you with an angry, disgusted gleam in his eyes that made your heart sink.

"You're the one corrupting my son," Mr.Shimura spat at you, "I never want to see you here again. You hear me?"

"But!" You wanted to scream and cry but you could barely choke out the words in defense of your friend, one of the rare times your blood boiled in rage.

That day you were forced out without even saying goodbye to Tenko. His grandparents walked you home, and they all warned you, if you were to come home again, it would pose a risk to him.

So for Tenko's sake, you decided to stop coming over.

You still saw him at school, but you began making up excuses on why you couldn't come over. Telling him you had many chores to do, extra homework, or just that you were too tired.

Until one day, his sister, Hana, called you over to come play.

"Are you sure your dad won't get mad?" You chewed your bottom lip, "I'm not allowed to go to your house anymore."

"Don't worry! My dad got over it already." She said through the phone.

You sighed, debating whether to believe her or not. And it wasn't until you overheard Tenko on the phone, struggling to do his homework. You usually were the one that helped him with it, and hearing him struggle was reason enough to visit.
