"There you go Will, look at you!" Kayla cheered happily for him as he managed a complete lap of the hospital wing. The healers had determined that he had a severe concussion, which greatly messed with his abilities to move, or do anything for that matter.
Collapsing into the nearby chair, he let out a long, shaky exhale. His head was spinning faster than he could comprehend, making his stomach churn. Carefully, he closed his eyes and set his head against the wall behind him, trying to make the room stop moving. He could hear Kayla shuffling about the wing around him, clearly trying to avoid him, but she was not doing the best job of it. The metal trays clattered in on the tables when she set them down, the cabinet doors slamming loudly when they were closed, and the curtains screeching while being moved, all playing a monstrous cacophony in his mind.
"KAYLA," he snapped, opening his eyes to look at her. The nurse froze where she stood, turning to him with a sheepish expression written across her face.
"Too loud?" She meekly asked, looking like she was held at gunpoint.
"Yeah, just a little."
"Sorry. I'll head out for a second and give you a break," He smiled gratefully at her as she slipped out of the room into her office down the hallway.
Other than him, the hospital wing was empty, so it quickly settled back into a silence when the nurse left. He closed his eyes once more, allowing his mind to focus on the quiet buzzing of the air in the wing. It made a low humming noise, occasionally picking up in frequency when extra air rushed through the corridor from outside. His mind began to wander back to his dreams, the strange scenarios that always ended with him or the mysterious new savior dead. As he began to slip into sleep, he heard footsteps on the ground heading towards him.
Without cracking an eye, he spoke. "Kayla, I thought you were heading out. Please I just need a minute."
"What a wonderful greeting," The icy voice droned. Will cracked an eye to barely make out the shape of the prince standing in front of him.
"Oh. You."
"Glad to see you are as kind as ever."
Will gave up on trying to sleep, finally opening his eyes and sitting forward. "What do you want? If you don't mind, I really want to be recovering and this is not helping."
"Trust me, I don't want to be here either," Will scoffed, earning him a pointed look from the prince, "But I bring guests."
He stepped aside, beckoning forward a young woman who looked slightly older than the two of them.
"Meet soon-to-be queen, Princess Hazel Levesque."
As she stepped into the light, he finally got a good look at her. While he had been in the palace for weeks, he still had only interacted with one member of the royal family, and now, he finally knew another. She was stunning, to say the least. Her skin looked warm as coffee, a stunning complexion that was framed by cinnamon brown hair. Unlike the prince, her eyes were bright and inviting, glimmering with what Will could have sworn was pure gold. Her long dress was held together by intricate laces, making her appear taller than she truly was. Nonetheless, she was the pure image of royalty itself.
Will stood up slowly, bowing low to the princess with a smile despite the pounding in his head as he moved. "It is a pleasure to meet you, your highness."
The princess giggled, a bright bubbly noise that warmed Will. "Please, enough with the formalities. I hate it when people do that. Call me Hazel."
He nodded, but the prince spoke to her. "Hazel, are you sure? You know mom and dad hated it when you denounced your status like that. You're about to be queen for gods sake."
