She opened her umbrella as she stepped foot on the drenched sidewalk.
Exiting the store with a plastic bag in hand, containing snacks, having run out just before she started rewatching her favorite show.
Scoffing in exasperation, she walked through the pouring rain. Boots splashing the puddles formed from the pouring rain, the passing cars being the only disturbance to the tranquility of the streets.
Walking past many people, each one blurred from her vision. The strange sense of sonder swelling in her chest as she sighed.
Stopping in front of a pedestrian lane, waiting for the traffic lights to cue her chance to cross.
Looking up from the puddles under her feet, she glanced around. People walked with purpose, holding their own umbrellas in hand as it rained.
But their faces..were blurry. Narrowing her eyes as she started to feel the familiar thumping in her chest, forced to look back down at the drenched concrete.
The people around her start to walk forward, seeing their feet pass her by as she shook her head out of her daydreams and started to walk alongside them.
She crossed the road safely..but was abruptly halted by the sounds of crashing behind her.
Turning her head back at the road, the sight beholded made her eyes widen ever so slightly. Finding it pitiful.
A car that crashed into a metal pole of a street light.
Yet another attempt on her life, failed.
About to turn back around to mind her business, someone started shouting. Shouting for her help.
She paused once more. Looking back at trapped driver, face all bleary as their hands reached for her. Desperation evident in their voice and frantic movements.
'Its a trick.'
She tightened her grip on the handle of her umbrella. Eyes wide yet her expression remained ever so empty as if she was trying to convince herself against her instinct.
'Help them and it's your life.'
Her thoughts echoing loudly in her head, telling her to leave the desperate man to die. Yet her feet stepped forward with reluctance, towards the pleading man.
