spencer.

She's attracted to me.

The blush in her cheeks and the dilation in her pupils was obvious. Studies have shown that when people are attracted to each other, their hearts race together. The skin also momentarily becomes a conductor of electricity. It's why people claim to feel sparks when they touch. My heart was racing, and I felt something when I looked at her.

I know all of the chemicals that go into what makes attraction so electric and magnetic. I could list off every single one and what they do. But when I looked at her yesterday, it was like my brain wanted to stop working.

Especially at the sight of her in that outfit.

It's not polite to ogle someone, and I made sure to keep my eyes on hers instead of her pebbled nipples, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about them for the rest of the night after we first met.

And then again when I saw her on the train in those heels.

I like to try and get to know how someone's mind works before I make a snap decision about whether or not I'm attracted to them, but with Chloe it just sort of... hit me.

It was unexpected, and I don't like it when things are unexpected.

After I dropped that book off at her door, I had to fly out to Ohio for a family annihilator case.

It was fairly cut and dry, but it's cut into our vacation time. I'm hoping for something a little quieter after this. Maybe some time at home, reading, cooking, and finally beating Derek at Halo.

He cheats. I'm convinced. I just have to figure out how he's doing it.

Working is usually a replacement for an agent's life. You get into this field because you want to help people and you want an occupation that takes up so much of your time, you barely have to think about anything else.

I've always had a habit of losing myself in things. Books, mostly. But this job challenges me in ways I've never experienced before.

Both good and bad.

But in Ohio, I thought about Chloe a lot. Probably more than I should have.

One morning, I went out and perused the book store. It's the one place that calms me down during these cases. I picked up fourteen romance novels— all different sub genres. The girl at the counter gave me a strange look, but I'm curious about what Chloe might read.

"What is that?" Derek asks, settling down across from me on the jet.

I glance up to see a smile that I would describe as smug and everyone else would describe as regular Derek.
