CW: aftermath of domestic violence, discussions of drug use.

Some dialogue pulled directly from the show. I don't own it, I'm just having a silly goofy time.

Reads, comments, engagement, etc. are down (again), so if you can comment and vote, that would help me out a lot <3 Thanks, friends <3

SAFE HOUSE

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA

I sent the poster off to forensics to see if they could find anything. Fingerprints, saliva...

I'd even be grateful for semen particles at this point. Anything that could pin down the fact that it's Dean.

But there's a though nagging in the back of my mind.

Jason.

He seemed to take all of this personally, almost like he was connected to the victims. Sometimes, people form deep attachments to murder cases through profound empathy. They latch on to the details, playing armchair detective and swearing they can solve the case better than we can.

The truth is, most people have no idea what they're really talking about when it comes to profiling, investigation techniques, or even forensic procedures.

They think a few podcasts and some episodes of Forensic Files give them decades of expertise.

They spin half-truths into conspiracy theories— even in the age of the internet when you can fact check within seconds.

When I brought up the idea of bringing in plain clothes officers, the staff bristled at the idea. It's completely understandable. Most of them have had bad experiences with law enforcement. But after I explained that it was in our best interests to keep them safe and that the officers would not interfere with the daily comings and goings of the club, everyone softened.

Except for Jason, who suddenly made it his mission to be extremely helpful, hunting through security footage and offloading it onto a USB drive for me.

The change in demeanor put me on edge. After Maeve, I'm not taking any chances.

I had Garcia conduct background checks on every single staff member, including Chloe and the rest of the dancers.

She never feels good about going through people's personal lives unless it's an unsub, but I have to be objective. I'm a man of science and I strive for objectivity.

Besides, we have to check out everyone.

I'm still awake, hunting through security footage on a clunky laptop while Chloe sleeps soundly beside me. I've never shared a bed with a woman before— not like this.
