𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 it was the day of PSAT prep testing, and her car was being serviced at the dealership, Sam picked Scarlett up on the way to school. After the test, Scarlett and Maudie found Sam by some nearby lockers as she waited for Miguel. "Hey." Sam greeted as she gave Miguel a chaste peck on the lips.

"Hey." Miguel said.

"I'll meet you." Demetri said, as he gave the group of friends a thumbs up.

"What's with the doom and gloom?" Scarlett questioned noticing her friend's change in demeanor making Miguel crack a smile.

"Yeah, ususally you're so optimistic." Maudie added as she clutched the strap of her Louis Vuitton backpack

"Come on, l'm sure you did amazing, again." Sam encouraged with a big smile hoping to lighten the mood.

"Yeah, I was just a little distracted." Miguel said. Scarlett and Maudie both raised a brow at him

"What? Why?" Sam asked

"The tournament. I don't have a lot of time to prepare, so." Miguel said. Scarlett and Maudie glanced at each other. There's something more that's bothering him, and he's just not telling.

"Well, you had to have done better than me. The guy in front of me definitely did not shower. Made me completely forget how to calculate the volume of a sphere. But he definitely helped me remember the word malodorous." Sam said

"So what did you do last night?" Miguel asked

"Just a family dinner." Sam said

"I'd like to meet them sometime. I've never been to your house." Miguel said

"Well, l've never been to your house either." Sam said.

"You're more than welcome to come whenever you want to come. My mom would love to meet you. Or I can come to your house, meet your mom, your dad." Miguel said

"You know, tonight's just really not a good night. Um, but we should totally hit up Ventura. Two shakes at Salt & Straw on me?" Sam asked changing the topic of the conversation.

"Yeah, um, I should go train. Maybe another time." Miguel said

Sam's face fell. "Um, okay." Scarlett watched as Miguel nervously tugged on the strap of his backpack. "But I'll call you later." He said, making Sam nod.

Scarlett and Maudie watched as Sam walked off in the opposite direction as Miguel. Wanting to know what was happening, they told their best friend they would meet her in the parking lot. "Hey Miguel." Scarlett said, and he turned around a bit surprised at her actions.

"What's up?" Miguel asked making her shrug.

"I don't know, you tell us. You were acting really weird in front of Sam. Everything okay?" Maudie asked as she clutched the strap of her bag. "What's going on?"
