The group of freshmen managed to make it to the class before the late bell and immediately noticed (Y/N) standing by one of the desks, arranging their books and messing with the pencil in their hands. Ace and Deuce walked over to another table close by and Yuuken and Grim walked over to the desk that (Y/N) was at.
"Thanks for having our backs," Ace grumbled sarcastically as he walked passed their table, the vessel giving a small bow of apology. They didn't mean to abandon their companions, but they didn't wish to be late for any lessons, especially on their first day. Their conversation was suddenly interrupted when a familiar smooth voice spoke from the front of the laboratory.
"Alright pups, that is enough chatter from you all," Crewel said as he walked into the class. He looked around the room to get a look of his students and noticed (Y/N) sitting in the middle table with Yuuken and Grim. He gave a small nod to the vessel before addressing the class. "My name is Divus Crewel. You may call me Master Crewel. Now, take your seats. Class is about to begin. We're going to start with the basics. And by that, I mean beating the names and distinguishing characteristics of one hundred herbs and poisons into your tiny brains. The mycelia are another matter. But eventually, I'm hopeful you'll be able to take a walk without putting anything poisonous into your gaping maws. For now, I realize you have all the self-control of voracious hounds. But I will not abide a single student failing this class. Expect to be drilled accordingly."
"Huh. So... does anyone know what a mycelia is?" Deuce asked as everyone listened to their teacher's words.
"Mushrooms," (Y/N) answered in a soft voice, the translator proving to be quiet helpful. Crewel heard (Y/N)'s answer and walked over before patting their head with his free hand.
"Smart puppy," Crewel complimented before walking away as he continued talking. (Y/N) stared at Crewel after hearing him compliment them and an unfamiliar feeling sparked in their chest. They sat straighter and seemed put more attention at what Crewel was saying. Yuuken noticed this and aside from a curious eyebrow raise, he didn't say anything.
"I've never been one for like, memorizing what things are, ya know?" Ace commented with a sigh as he rested his cheek on his hand, looking quite bored.
"All I care about is how to tell the yummy plants from the yucky ones," Grim said as he relaxed on the desk, messing with an eraser left on the table with a bored expression.
