𝕮eleste had stayed far away from Riddle after that prefect round. She was embarrassed, mortified that he had seen her like that. It did not help that now, all the newspapers were speaking about the war heating up and her nightmares were getting worse.

In the muggle war, the German chancellor had just issued a speech demanding total war from the German citizens. Those above sixth year were starting to become worried that they would be called up to fight, a stress that had most crowding around a radio, in particular the muggle borns (though there were few in Slytherin), to listen to the names of the dead and of those called up to fight for their country.

In the Wizarding war, Grindelwald was still as at large as ever. His forces were sweeping through Europe. People were being killed, bodies found dead in different places and more and more people missing families.

Even pureblood families were being affected.

"...and the death of Selwyn Soles brings the total death toll of the Belgium incidences to 120 in the war against Grindelwald. The Ministry of Magic is yet to comment." The mood in the common room was darker now. All the sixth and seventh years were hovered around the radio. Walburga's hand was clutched in Celeste's as they listened to the attack in Belgium. It was one of the worst in the Wizarding war against Grindelwald, with 120 people dead in varying horrific ways whilst they attempted to rebel against Grindelwald, and others still missing.

The youngest dead had been only five and one of their fourth year Slytherin student's younger brother.

Celeste hadn't seen the girl in a few days now.

Looking up, she caught eyes with Riddle, who had put his book away as he listened to what was going on. His eyebrows were slightly furrowed, before he caught her eyes and she looked away quickly.

They were called into an assembly the next morning.

Everyone was quiet and still, heads down and black accessories attached to their uniforms. Celeste settled down next to Walburga, Amelie on her other side as the Slytherin boys filed in behind them. Professor Dippet stood up at the top of the hall as Amelie's shaky hand found Celeste's, squeezing.

Celeste had never thought when coming back to the past that these people would be affected by the horrors of war. She had just assumed that they would all be completely unphased by it or all evil. However, one look around her at the others in her house had her backtracking on that. Amelia was pale and shaking, Nedra was scared for her brother, who was on the verge of being called up to fight. Even the men were quiet and worried.

"As many of you are aware, the recent incident in Belgium perpetrated by the dark wizard, Grindelwald, has affected many hundreds of families and people." Professor Dippet started. "Some of whom are your peers, or perhaps your own family or friends. I know that this time is incredibly scary, knowing that this is the world that you're going into. The threat from radicalised wizards, tempted by the dark arts, and their impact on your lives is increasing."
