Windows that show the view of the beautiful city behind his wooden desk. Expensive black leather covers all the furniture. The office is the size of my living room and small kitchen. A neatly organized desk and deem yellow lamps that make the place feel warm. To the far left there was a door and to the right two. There was a massive black leather sofa with matching armchair and wooden coffee table.
We both take our respective seats. Him behind his grand bureau and I in front of it on the right cushioned leather chair.
"Mary Oceans is your name, correct?" He questioned not turning from his computer.
"Yes, you are correct." I assure him. Rubbing my forehead gently, the headache began to blur my vision.
"Is everything alright, miss Oceans." He wasn't looking at his computer anymore. His eyes had diverted their attention to my hands, both of them had bruises from when I got hit by that car earlier. He had a worried look when his eyes met with mine. I quickly shoved my hands to the side and gave him a crooked smile.
"Couldn't be better." I lied.
"Alright then." His cold demeanor returned. He asked me all the questions they typically ask at interviews. He told me that I will be hearing from him shortly if I got the job, which I doubt I did because for most of the interview I refused to make eye contact, not like I could see him considering the massive migraine I was experiencing. As I was standing up to leave, my hand finding its way to my forehead once more, I heard his voice but it was muffled.
"Humm?" I question uncertainty. I look up, finding nothing but a blurred canvas.
"Alright, you are clearly not well." He takes both my arms and sits me back down. His sudden hands on my bare arms were warm and gentle. How did he manage to get to me so fast?
"Dont move. I'll get you some water." He steps behind his desk and comes again with a little water bottle in his hands.
"Here it's room temperature." His voice seems deeper, or is that my imagination? I take it into my hands, and drink a bit. My vision still blur I can feel him lingering above me, observing me as if to make sure I drink properly. Only the thought of my bed helped at the moment, so to it I shall go.
"I'm better now I assure you, Mr Macallister." I lie attempting to get up but he grabs my arms once more and gently lowers me again. His fingers slipped and rubbed my elbow feeling my scrapes.
"Oh god." His voice is definitely lower. "Miss Oceans you are bleeding." I can feel him pick my other arm up and inspect. "From both arms."
He exclaims.
What a man baby! Had he never seen blood before? He walked away and came back shortly after with a medkit. How embarrassing? Now it is certain I won't be getting a call back. I should have just stayed with grandma at the hospital.
"Sit tight. This will sting a bit. He placed a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol on my wounds. I shifted and ground from the burn. He did the same three more times, on my other elbow and hands. How humiliating. Having this man feel sorry for me, to have him on his knees tending to my wounds.
My vision had cleared and I could see him now. His eyes met with mine, his beautiful black eyes.
"Do you feel better now?" He questioned standing up before me and handed me my leftover water.
"Yes." The pain faded with the level of embarrassment I now feel.
I stood up promptly as he had his back turned and fast walked to the door.
Turning back and facing him "Thank you, for everything and sorry for all the inconvenience I have caused." I rushed out the door before he could respond and booked it towards the stairs. 58 levels of sprinting, I took a breather before exiting the staircase and entering the lobby just so I don't look completely crazy.
I exited and went home, too tired to think or even move. I called grandma and told her I couldn't make it, she was still sleeping. I left a voice message. The cringe feeling didn't leave my body all night.
