Mary woke up at 10 am the next morning, her head ached and memory drifted. She did remember speaking with Charles the previous night and being mad about him firing her.

She tried picking up her grandmother's books about gardening but it was all too much for her and after a while it just hurt her to see the garden without her grandmother's presence.

Entering the house after taking a recreational walk she noticed that Mr Macallister's jacket was still in the hat hanger, her temptations got the best of her, she grabbed the jacket and took a big breath in, his scent filled up her nostrils, blocking all her senses a smile formed on her lips and the image of him was vivid in her head.

Returning the jacket was the great excuse that she needed to go back to the office and get away from the cottage.

"I brought you some treats." She handed a worried Jane a container of baked goods she had made the previous night. "Don't worry I just came to drop something off, I won't stay." Continued Mary after noticing the expression on Jane's face, 'at least she worries about my well being.' thought Mary.

"Thank you, Mary. You know I love you, right?" Said Jane, walking around her desk to hug Mary. "You are my best friend and I just want you to be happy."

"Aw thank you Jane." Smiled Mary, embracing the hug that she offered.

"Okay. Let me go to the restroom I've been holding in my pee for about 2 hours." Giggled Jane, releasing from the hug and dancing her way to the bathroom.

Mary walked into the office and waved at a couple of her colleagues out of respect and manners, nothing else she felt a sense of indifference when it came to those cubicle workers.

She thought about just opening the door instead of knocking but then that would tell Charles that she was no longer mad about him firing her and so she knocked but opened the door within less than half a second. She regretted that, as she saw Leslie's hand all over him as they kissed. He diverted her eyes as her stomach felt heavy, seeing them together made her physically ill. Charles pushed Leslie off as soon as Mary opened the doors, but it was too late. She saw them.

"Mary!" He exclaimed, shocked. Mary decided to hide her emotions and began walking towards them.

"This- Mary, this-" Charles didn't know how to word his thoughts.

With her heart in shreds and confused emotions she placed the jacket on the chair and looked up at them. Leslie wore a mischievous smile, she enjoyed it, whatever it was that she was doing, whatever she was destroying between them.

"Mary please." He moved away from Leslie trying to get closer to her but Leslie pulled him back into her. He moved her away irritated.

"Let her go, Charles. She clearly came just to drop off your jacket." Giggled Leslie, her forced hyper feminine voice was irksome and bothersome. Charle's eyes begged Mary to stay for an explanation but she felt betrayed even though she didn't have 'the right to' she thought.

"Yes. The girl is correct. I just came to return your jacket, Mr Mcallister." Mary stated, politely. The words distraught Macallister, he knew that 'Mr Macallister' at the end of her sentence was too formal. Mary didn't see the pain in his eyes, in fact she avoided them when turning around and taking her leave.

A flood of tears came over her, thankfully Jane had still not returned from the restroom and didn't see her crying. But Mary didn't want to cry over a man that was never her's, they had just kissed nothing more. 'It meant nothing' she thought but she didn't believe. She had regretted opening up her heart to him, letting him see her cry. She wished she never unfocused her attention from her goals and started seeing him in her future. She should've known things like romance weren't invented for her.
