A faint smile crosses my lips, but a wave of anxiety quickly spreads through me. I can't let him get his hopes up for something that might never happen, for something I'm not even sure I'll ever be ready for. I've already read the article a couple of times, and I still don't know what to say. I feel sorry for Liam, and I let him know with a text. His understanding reply, assuring me it wasn't a big deal, eased some of my guilt, at least that's one less problem to worry about. I haven't checked my social media yet, and honestly, I'm scared to. The thought of people blaming me for Charles and Alexandra's breakup is suffocating. My eyes fall on Charles's last text, and despite everything, I can't stop myself from smiling widely. A comforting warmth fills me, and deep down, I know the truth. Even if I should keep my distance from him, last night has made it impossible to keep that promise.
I get up.
