I keep hold of Lee's knife and stay in the passenger's seat until Lee comes into the truck.

The fire's low and the two guys are passed out on their lawn chairs.

"I'm gonna put this truck in gear and roll it back down the road..." How can we just leave them without sorting them out first? We can't leave a murder on the loose.

"We have to kill them... Brad at least." Lee gives me a concerning look, "you heard him. He's murdering people."

"He's an eater. Those people would be dead anyway." How can he be so careless about the situation?

"We don't know that. And who knows what he's capable of now-" he catches me off guard,
"Are you hungry?" What does he mean? This is not the time to be asking that.

"What? No, but-"

He continues to cut me off,
"Then we shouldn't be talking about killing anybody."

Does he not understand that this isn't the same thing? Brad isn't like us. Whatsoever. What wasn't he getting?

"But Lee, he's got to be stopped-"

"Then we'll drive into town and call the cops." Will this guy just let me fucking speak.

"And say what?" He can't possibly be serious? There are so many things that could go wrong.

"That two guys approached us at this camp talking about killing people. Then we hang up and keep driving." He has to be kidding.

"I'll do it then-" I reach for the door handle but Lee stops me.

"(Y/N). Think about it. You see how they get on each other's nerves? I'd give it two more weeks, tops, before Brad wakes up with the other guy's teeth in his neck. He'll get his. I promise he will."

My hand stays on the door but I don't respond. Lee continues,
"I don't want this to touch us. We need to get you to your mum."

Something about how he says "we" and "us" does something to me. Like he doesn't want me doing this alone.

Lee takes a knife and gets out of the truck, and creeps over to the men's station wagon where he crouches down beside one of the rear tyres. I see the car slowly sink a few inches on the same side. He deflates the other rear tyre and comes back. I breathe a sigh of relief knowing they'll be stalled for a bit.

Lee quietly wrenches the truck into neutral and it begins to roll backwards, softly clanking down the road.

Lee watches the side mirror and I keep my eye on the men to make sure they don't wake up.

And then I notice Jake's eyes.

Wide open.

"Lee." I try to warn him.
He sees him, then watches the side mirror again making sure we don't go off the road.

"Fuck. Is he getting up?" I turn around to see the answer to Lee's question.

Yes.

"GO LEE GO-" I shout not wanting to risk being caught by the psychopath.

As soon as Lee has enough room, he whips the truck around, starts the engine, and floors it.

I look behind us and see in the red of our taillights, Jake is right there, trying to reach the back gate, but he can't keep up. Thank the lord.

He gives up with a yell and then is swallowed back up by darkness.
