“We’re not sure. This could be the rise before the fall, if you know what I mean.” The doctor told us, as we sat around a very conscious Cody.
“I don’t know what you mean doctor.” Genny looks to the doctor for clarification.
“This could be like, you know I’m just gonna give you a story to see if you understand me. Let’s say we have a patient here who was just in a severe plane crash with others. One girl and the pilot has already died, the others are dealing with their own problems, like hand tendon’s being cut off, or a girl having to amputate her leg. The patient we have here is dealing with severe chest pains and he has a strange rash, so to say, on his chest. In the field, or at the plane crash site, the others took “care” of him, because they are all doctors on their way to someplace else. When emergency finally comes to rescue them, he’s basically in a coma or dead. We bring him in and deal with him, he’s still in a coma. One day, he finally comes to, that’s the rise. He has enough time to fill out his will, and say where things go and who has control over his baby and home. After a few days, he slowly starts to decline, that’s the fall. Eventually, he’s just being kept alive by machines. None of the doctors want to let him go, of course, but they realize that it hurts him more to keep him here. Do you understand what I’m saying now?” Genny has tears in her eyes. She understands. Completely.
"If I were you all, I would spend as much time as possible with each other. We don't know when the fall could happen?" The doctor tells us, frowning and stepping out of the room. Cody looks up to his mom.
"Mom. I'm so sorry."
"Shhhh. That doesn't matter anymore. What matters is that your here now." Stevie and I decide to step out of the room to let the family talk. We're sitting in the chairs, and I'm about to fall asleep.
"Lauren! Cody wants to talk to you alone." Adam says, walking up and taking my chair when I stand.
I walk confused into Cody's room. I smile faintly, shutting the door behind me.
"Hey. I'm glad you're....okay." I say, hesitantly. He chuckles at me.
"I heard that you were the one to find me. Thank you Lauren." Cody says looking into my eyes, sincerely.
"You're very welcome." I say, kissing his cheek and hugging him.
"So are you and my brother dating?" He asks, looking over at Jeremiah. I blush.
"I don't think so, and I don't know if we will." I say, looking over at Jeremiah through the closed glass.
'Why not!" Cody sarcastically whines. I laugh at him.
"Because, I like Jeremiah, but I also like someone else..." I say, trailing off. He looks at me and winks.
"Ohhhh. I get it." He smirks, "Who is it?" I look down, playing with my fingers.
"I can't tell you!"
"Yes you can now go. Tell me." He pushes, watching my every move. I sigh.
"He's sweet, to me. He's handsome, and cute, and sexy. He's flirty, but he can also lose his temper quite easily." Cody's eyes light up when he realizes who I'm talking about.
"Well go after hi--" At that moment, we're interrupted by a boy who's sweet, handsome, flirty, cute and sexy.
Cole.
