After a very awkward breakfast, (or atleast, it was for Koby) everybody dispersed to do their own things. Luffy and Usopp were running after each other on the lawn, Chopper was getting ready to do his monthly check-up on the crew, Sanji was preparing some extra packed lunches to freeze and thaw out later incase he didn't have time to cook, Zoro was sleeping, Nami was sunbathing, Franky and Brook were chatting by the tangerine trees, and Robin was talking to Koby about their previous adventures up on the deck where the helm was, watching the boys play around in the grass.
Koby found it easier to talk to Nico Robin than others, like Franky or Nami. Nami scared Koby. Just a little bit.
"..nd then we headed back to the ship, Nami scolding poor Luffy." Robin concluded her story just as Chopper entered.
"Hi, Robin! Hi, Koby! I hope you guys don't mind, but can you guys come to my office for a check-up?" He said cheerily, and Koby had a feeling the little reindeer enjoyed his job.
"Of course." Robin smiled at the doctor, and it reminded Koby of how a mother would smile at her son. (Not that he knew what that was like, anyway.)
"Okay! Koby, I'll check Robin out separately and then I'll come get you when I'm ready!" Chopper hopped off, hoof-in-hand with Nico Robin towards his office.
He couldn't help but smile at their bond. And sadly, since he was alone, the nagging part of his mind surfaced.
This isn't right, the navy way of justice. They'll deny it, but they only really want to help people who have some Beli to spend, or somebody who'll help them save face. It's revolting. Being a pirate or even a Revolutionary would be so much better.
No, thats not right. The navy may be corrupt right now, and it'll stay like that until somebody tries to change it for the better. And I'll be that somebody. I'll work hard and finally help those who can't help themselves. Finally.
Koby sighed and shook his head. Standing up, he stretched his arms wide and far with a massive yawn. His neck was sore, most likely from him falling asleep sitting up last night.
Yeah, sleeping with Straw Hat Luffy, a pirate captain worth 400,000,00 Beli.
How about you shut up, intrusive thoughts?
i think i need therapy.
"...y? Kooobbyy?"
All of a sudden, a hoof was waved in front of his face and Koby jerked backwards.
"Oh- Im sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." Chopper said, looking like he was trying not to laugh. "Are you ok? You were making some really funny faces."
"O- Uh, yeah, I'm fine. Just had some dumb thoughts is all!" Koby smiled at the deer.
"Oh! Okay! Well, come over to my office and we can check you out!" Chopper hopped from foot to foot, then skipped away.
Koby followed him, deciding not to tell him he was perfectly healthy and didnt need a check up. He didn't want to take this away from Tony-Tony, and decided it wouldn't hurt.
Inside of the little room, Koby sat on a bed that was surprisingly cushy and comfortable.
"Okay! Have you felt off lately, anything? Headaches, sore muscles, cold sweats?"
"No, Doctor. Just a sore neck, which is from sleeping upright."
"I'll take a look, just to make sure!" Chopper hopped up beside him, and Koby tilted his head to the side to make it easier for the doctor to inspect it.
"Okay! Looks like its alright, like you said. Do you mind if check your heartbeat?" He held up a stethoscope.
"Not at all." Koby shed his button-up shirt so Chopper could press the stethoscope to his back and chest, listening.
All of a sudden, a loud crash occurred, and seconds later he heard footsteps slamming onto the deck, getting closer and closer to Tony Tony Choppers room. The marine ran up to the door immediately, extending his observation Haki.
Fortunately, it wasn't an enemy attack.
Unfortunately for Koby, it was too late for him to move as the door was flung open and he was ran straight into and knocked on the floor.
"Oof!" He grunted. He could feel somebody lying on-top of him, and, once again, unfortunately for the poor marine, it was, of course, the beloved man-child Koby somehow fell for. In this case, both metaphorically and literally.
"Oh- Shishishishi! Whoops! Did I run into you?" Luffy adjusted himself so that he was sitting on Koby.
Koby didn't answer.
"Um.. Koby?" Luffy leaned over and realized that the poor boy was staring into space, his nose bleeding and eyes unbelievably wide and face unbelievably red.
"Oh- CRAP! HEY!! KOBY!! AHHH!!! I KILLED KOBY!!" Luffy yelped, still sitting on top of him.
"imokaybutluffysancanyoupleasestopsittingonmeidonthaveashirtonpleaseluffysan.." Koby croaked.
"What?" Luffy got even closer to the Navy Captains face.
"L-.. Nevermind.." Koby whispered, laying his head back and closing his eyes with a sharp exhale.
"OH! RIGHT! KOBYKOBYKOBY! THERES AN ISLAND! Hey, wheres your shirt? WOAH- HEY, WHERES YOUR SHIRT?" Luffy jumped like he just realized that, which he probably had. Quickly, he scrambled off of the poor pinkette.
Chopper glanced at his captain, and realized Luffy was.. red in the face. The only time that ever happened was when he thought too hard. But Chopper didn't think Luffy was thinking about much at the moment, and he knew Luffy wasn't sick, so why was he so flushed?
"Umm.." Luffy blinked, and then offered Koby a hand, which he hesitantly took.
"Theres an island?" Chopper said, trying to break the awkward atmosphere that had suddenly descended.
"Oh! YEAH! And get this, they're having this really awesome fancy-mascara-ball!"
"..what?" Koby said, looking back at Luffy as he slipped his shirt on.
"Um.. maqera ball?"
"Luffy-san, do you mean masquerade ?" The marine said, trying (and failing) to stifle his giggle.
"Uh... that!" Luffy grinned at Koby, and suddenly it reminded Chopper of the way people on Valentine's Day would look at one another. Odd.
"Nami said we can go! Brook and her are gonna help us choose our outfits!" Luffy was bouncing around like normal, no red face or sappy stare, which was a relief for Chopper. At least Luffy wasn't sick.
"Really?!" Koby couldn't help but get excited. Luffy's excited energy was rubbing off on him, and plus, he'd never even been to a ball before. He realized with dismay he couldn't even dance, and then told himself, Koby, why does it matter? Who would dance with you, anyway?
Koby gave himself some real confidence boosts, alright.
