I stretched out across my bed, pulling the covers over my head to shield myself from the sunlight streaming through the window. Despite my inclination to sleep all day, I knew I had to get up soon because my brother would be picking me up shortly.

Almost every Saturday morning, my brother Elijah, a staunch advocate for fitness and health, has always ensured that I got out of bed for either a brisk walk or a workout at the gym.

Me personally, I'd rather be sleeping considering the weekends were my only days off due to being in college full time. I lived with my brother since I wasn't working right now, he prefers me to focus on school, and covers my other expenses for the most part. Y'know? The typical car note, insurance, money for clothes and makeup, things like that. I wasn't spoiled or anything and I do eventually want my own, but he picked up these habits of care from our father who would always go out of his way to take care of our mother.

I miss them so much.

Groaning in irritation, I forced myself out of bed, jumped into the shower, and quickly dressed in comfort. I chose a simple pair of biker shorts and a cropped Harvard University t-shirt. As I walked out of my bathroom slipping on my t-shirt, my phone chimed as I slipped on my no-show socks, and I hopped while slipping into my sneakers.

Elijah's named flashed across the screen as I sat at the foot of my bed swiping my screen to answer, I rolled my eyes putting my phone on speaker.

"Yes, Eli." I spoke in a dismissive tone, crossing one leg over the other.

"First off, lose the attitude shorty, I'm pulling up. Had to scoop up Mateo.. And can you at least act like less of a brat today." He spoke, and I struggled to conceal the smile spreading across my face. The truth is, I've had a crush on Mateo since middle school. Sure, he's three years ahead of me in age, but the age difference doesn't bother me. I've found myself pretending to dislike him to ward off my brothers' inquiries, and frankly, it's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain this facade.

"Ugh, I'm coming outside." I ended the call, then grabbed my keys and water bottle. As I jogged down the steps, I pulled my hair into a high bun and adjusted my shorts to show a bit more skin, just as I heard Eli honking his horn.

I swiftly erased the smirk from my lips as I stepped outside, my heart fluttering in my chest upon meeting Mateo's onyx-brown eyes, he was seated in the passenger seat all of his tattoos exposed seeing that he was in a white wife-beater tank. As I locked the front door of the house, I subtly positioned myself to accentuate my figure.

Turning back around, I saw him quickly lower his gaze bringing his phone closer to his face, his tongue gliding against his bottom lip as I slide into the backseat.

"Hey loser." I joked hitting Eli in his arm as he sucked his teeth. He chuckled and shook his head before I put on my seatbelt.

"Damn, he's the only one in here?" Mateo questioned as I pulled my lips into my mouth, his gaze locking on mine as he turned around in the seat.
