——-"Yall about to leave now?"
"Yeah, Portland is only two hours away. Honestly we both need a break." I said to Eli as I hooked Brownie's leash and opening the front door. Mateo was putting our bags and Brownies doggy bed into the trunk, we'd stop at a store to get his food once we arrived.
"Aight, well let me know when you get there. Be safe. I love you, tell Mateo we gotta link for family dinner when y'all get back."
"I love you too Eli, and I'll let him know." I said, disconnecting the call before slipping my phone into my pocket. I held Brownies leash tightly as we made our way to the elevators and downstairs to Mateo's car. I admired him as he leaned against the hood of his car waiting for us.
"Sorry, I was on the phone with Eli, he said he wanted to have family dinner soon." I said pecking his lips a few times.
"It's all good mama, and aight I'm down." He smiled and pulled his keys from his hoodie pocket. Following me to the passenger side, he opened the door for me and Brownie and shut it as I got comfortable. I unhooked his lease and he climbed into the back laying on the seat. As Mateo got into the driver seat, my excitement for this trip began to show; it felt good to just get away for a while.
"You ready to go?" He questioned, bringing the engine to life as I nodded, kicking off my crocs I sat indian style as Brownie climbed into my lap getting comfortable. Cutting on the radio, Mateo connected the bluetooth feature from his phone and his shuffle on his playlist.
"It's cold babe." I said opening my package of sour patch kids as he drove out of the condo parking lot, he headed in the direction of the closest gas station in order for us to fill up before we got on the road.
"Cut on the heat then mama," He chuckled as I reached for the knob adjusting the heat for us both. "you know I have a heated seat feature." He said focusing on the road, cutting on his signal to make a right he pulled into the gas station parking lot.
Cutting the engine, he turned to face me causing me to smile.
"You want anything while I'm in there?"
"A bottle of water please babe."
"I got you mama." He winked turning away from the car, I watched surroundings and could see him walking around the store since the gas station had large glass windows.
As he came out of the gas station, he filled up the tank and we headed for the highway, about thirty minutes in the drive I felt myself becoming sleepy, resting my head on the window I drifted off.
