Omniscient."What do you mean my daughter can't get a tattoo?! She's fifteen years old, and I'm paying for it!" The woman yelled, her voice rising as Cheyenne began to shut down. She kept quiet and played with her fingers, something she'd always do when being yelled at, the habit had developed in her childhood.
"Hello?!?" The woman snapped her fingers as Cheyenne felt herself beginning to cry, she didn't mean to cry, usually she'd get an attitude back but she didn't expect the woman to become that upset.
"Hey! What you're not going to do is yell at my receptionist," Ryan interjected firmly as he walked toward the front. "That's not okay. I don't care if you're paying for it—she's fifteen. We don't tattoo anyone younger than eighteen. You want her to get a tattoo? Take her somewhere else that's willing to lose their license and shop over it, fuck outta my shop!" His yelled, brows furrowed as the woman scoffed, her greenish eyes glaring first at Cheyenne, then back at him.
"Fine! We'll go elsewhere! Come on Savanna." She spat, storming off, letting the door slam behind her.
"You okay?" Ryan questioned as Cheyenne nodded before leaving the front desk, walking toward the back she closed the bathroom door, locked it, and leaned her back against it.
Tears cascading down her cheeks, Mateo stepped out of his designated room, confusion on his face. He had been tattooing a client and didn't hear the commotion outside due to his music being at a high volume. The faint sound of the door slamming pulled him away once he was finished.
"What's goin' on bro?" He asked, looking toward Ryan who still had a look of irritation on his face.
"Cheyenne's crying in the bathroom . I had to kick that old ass karen out, screamin' at yo girl." Ryan said as Mateo sauntered toward the door, balling his hand into a fist he knocked.
"Mama? Open the door it's me." He said as the lock clicked and she pulled him into the bathroom shutting and locking it back.
"C'mere," He said softly, pulling her into his hold. "stop crying, you're okay-"
"She was so fuckin' rude!, now I would've been wrong if I argued back."
"I'm sorry that she was rude to you mama, you need a minute? Go outside and get some air?" He questioned as she nodded, as Mateo opened the bathroom door his eyes landed on Ryan coming to make sure that she was alright. One thing about Ryan was that no matter what, he stood by his employees, they were like family to him. Even the ones that no longer worked for him.
"Is she good?" He questioned as Mateo nodded.
"Yeah... but next time, if someone comes at crazy her like that again, I'ma handle that shit, but I appreciate you steppin' in though."
They slapped hands as Ryan gave him a head nod. "No problem bro. Just don't do somethin' that gets us shut down." He chuckled as Mateo shook his head trying to hold in his laughter.
"Nah, never that man." Mateo shook his head, looking toward the door to see that Cheyenne had come back inside. Ryan went back to his office and the two returned to their designated spots to finish out their shifts.
