"Nah, she's been in the bed all morning," I said into the phone, flipping the pancakes I was making for us. I watched them as the edges became crispy; that's how she liked them. "I asked if she wanted to eat, but she said no."

I glanced down the hallway toward the closed bedroom door. Today was always a tough day for her and E both, being that it was the anniversary of their parents passing.

From the moment she woke up, she barely said anything, just pulled the covers over herself when I got up.

"I made her breakfast, but she ain't come out yet. She's not handlin' it too well," I said, keeping my voice low so that she couldn't hear me, Brownie was in bed with her giving her lots of snuggles.

E sighed on the other end of the phone. "Yeah, I figured. This time of year's always rough for her more so than me."

"Think I should give her some space bro?" I asked, flipping the last pancake onto the plate and cutting off the stove completely.

"Nah, not too much," E said, his voice sounding a little more serious now. "She'll want to be alone for a minute, but she shouldn't be left like that all day. I'll come over in a minute."

I looked at the door one more time when I heard Brownie bark, I guess she'd gotten up. "You sure? I know you got stuff going to do today-"

"Yeah, man, I'm comin'. I'll be there in like an hour tops, got some errands to run with Angel." He said which caused me to nodded as if he could see me.

"Aight. I'll keep her calm till you get here, hit my line when you get off the elevator, love you bro."

"Aight, love you man."

After disconnecting the call, I sat my phone onto the counter and slid the last two pancakes on a plate. I added some fruit on the side, even if she wasn't eating, I wanted her to have somethin' ready for whenever she would.

I walked down the hall and knocked gently on the door. "Mama?" I called for her, but no answer.

I twisted the knob and pushed open the door to see that she was lying under the blankets, curled up on her side, her back facing me. Brownie laid beside her looking up at me, his little whine making it's way to my ears as he laid there.

Can dogs feel others emotions? He seemed sad too.

"I made you some breakfast mama," I said, setting the tray on the nightstand. "Your brother's comin' over in a little bit.."
