To say that the ride back home was awkward, would be an understatement. When we all made it back to the burrow the air was tense. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were arguing over the attack, Harry wouldn't speak about the ordeal, and I spent the rest of my time on bed rest, with a strict diet of warm soups and lots of water. Nobody talked about the match, in fact, everyone rarely talked at all. It was quite depressing.
The silence followed us to the train station a few weeks later. Thankfully, the silence was eventually broken when the candy trolley rolled on by our compartment. Candy was a cure to almost everything, for now at least.
"Anything off the trolley, dears?" The polite elderly woman asked, a smile on her face. Ron and Harry practically jumped out of their seats at the question. A bunch of addicts, those two are.
As soon as they left the compartment, Hermoine closed her book and turned to face me.
"How are you feeling?" She asked, genuinely, "I know you don't like to talk about it much, especially around those two."
"I'm better than I was a few days ago...just tired," I reply, smiling slightly in response. I wanted the bitter air to be cleared and replaced with a more joyful one.
"Now, while those two are ogling at the sweets, what's up with you and Cedric? I mean nicknames? There has to be something going on between you two." Hermoine spoke giddily, leaning in closer to me.
I laugh a little before answering, "Hermoine, honestly, there's nothing going on between us. If there were, you'd be the first to know for sure."
"There's no way he doesn't fancy you then, and I'm sure you fancy him as well!"
"Oh Hermoine," I start, blushing a little out of embarrassment, "I don't fancy Cedric, I just...find him interesting and fun to be around, that's all."
"Mhm...keep telling yourself that V, I've got my eyes on you two." She replied, retiring from whatever book she was reading before and opting to open a copy of the Dailey Prophet as Ron and Harry re-entered our compartment. Harry was bearing a huge grin on his face.
"Who's got you smiling like a fool, Harry?" I ask, an amused look on my face.
"Oh um...no one, just in a happy mood that's all." He spoke quickly, and I laughed to myself.
"This is horrible!" Hermoine all of a sudden spoke, "How could the ministry not know who conjured it? Wasn't there any security, or...-" She continued, looking up from the paper to shoot us all a worried glance.
"Loads," Ron started, his mouth full of gum, "According to dad... that's what worried them so much, happened right under their noses!"
"It's hurting again, isn't it?" Hermoine asked as Harry scratched his scar.
"I'm fine." He spoke simply.
"You know Sirius will want to hear about this." Hermoine replied, leaning forward, "What you saw at the World Cup and the dream."
"Dream?" I inquire. I hadn't heard anything about a new dream of Harry's and usually he would always tell me about them. It was something we both could relate to with each other. I was a little hurt that he didn't speak to me first about it.
"It's nothing." Harry muttered, turning to look out the window, before gathering supplies to write a letter.
"I'm going to go change and see if I can find Pansy." I suddenly state, standing up to get my bag. Maybe it's because our short-lived happy mood was just soured, or because I felt a tinge of betrayal, but I suddenly couldn't stand to be in that compartment.
"I don't know why you talk to her, let alone those group of arseholes she hangs out with," Ron states, rolling his eyes.
"For your information, Pansy is very nice. They all are...nice to me and in my house. Besides, I have to be friends with other people too, not just you lot," I speak, slightly offended, as I rush out of the room.
"Way to go Ron-" I briefly hear Hermoine scold Ron as I rush down the hallway. Due to my head being clouded by a range of un-happy emotions, I find myself walking straight into someone, knocking my bag to the floor, and almost myself as well. A hand wraps around my waist to keep me from hitting the ground.
"I'm so sorry-" I start before I'm rudely cut off by a snobby voice.
"Watch where you're going- Oh, it's you McMillan." Theodore Nott's voice rang through the hallway, as I finally looked up into his blue eyes. His face bore a scowl. "You should really watch where you're going." He continued, annoyance present in his tone as he lets go of me, and takes a step backwards.
"Merlin Nott, what's got your panties in a twist this fine afternoon." I criticized sarcastically, bending down to pick up my bag.
"You being in an idiot, is what." He sneered, crossing his arms, watching my every move.
"Lovely, you seem to get more and more arrogant every year. Your ego is absolutely suffocating." I spat out, annoyed by his rude behavior, "Besides, it's not like I purposefully bumped into you."
"Could say the same about you, McMillan, you seem to get more and more prissy every year." Theodore retorted with a smirk, and I just scoffed at his remark.
"I don't have time for your stupid banter, have you seen Pansy?" I ask, still very much so annoyed.
"Parkinson? Surprisingly not, you'd expect her to be all over Malfoy, but none of us have seen her." He spoke calmly. I was shocked to see a change in his demeanor.
"Oh, thanks." I reply, "I suppose I'll see you at supper then."
"Unfortunately." He answered shortly, and I just rolled my eyes in response not wanting to be around him for any longer than I had to.
I quickly made my way over to the washroom to change before heading to a compartment that my roommate, Astoria, was residing in along with a few of our friends for the rest of the trip.
