Chapter 26

1st November 2023

Jaida's pov:

I just got out the airport after landing in Brazil ready for the race weekend.

I didn't tell Lando what day it was coming as I wanted to surprise him so i got a taxi to the hotel and put my bags in George and Carmens room as Lando was at the paddock.

"So glad your back" Carmen said as we walked out of the hotel,
"me too you have no idea" i replied making her giggle as we headed to the paddock.

Once we got there we scanned our paddock passes and went our separate ways as she went to Mercedes hospitality as i went to McLaren.

I walked into McLaren hospitality to see Lando sat with his back to the door as he faced Oscar.

Oscar saw me and started smiling confusing Lando.

"What are you smiling at you muppet?" Lando asked before turning round to see me.

"jj?!" he said as he shot out his chair and ran over to me embracing me in a hug.

I instantly melted into his arms as he kissed my head.

"I missed you so much" he said as i looked up at him so he could place a kiss on my lips,
"i missed you too" i replied as he let go of me.

"How was Kings Lynn"  he asked referring to my mum,
"it was alright" i said before dropping my keys by accident.

As i went to pick them up i realised my sleeve moved up a bit too high revealing the bruises Frankie had left making my heart drop. I prayed Lando hadn't payed attention as i stood back up and looked at him. Shit.

"jj what was that on your wrist?" he asked making me sigh before he gently grabbed my hand and moved my sleeve up revealing the bruises.

"Jaida-" he was saying,
"Oscar where's Lily then?" i asked interrupting Lando as i walked over to the table Oscar was sat at.

"She's popped back to the hotel she'll be back soon" he replied as i nodded.

"Jaida-" Lando was saying before he was interrupted again only this time it wasn't by me.

"Boys are you ready for practice?" Zak said,
"Yep" Oscar replied as he stood up,
"i'll be there in a minute" Lando said as Oscar nodded and headed out leaving just me and Lando in the room.

"Well i'll go and find Lily then since you and Oscar are-" i was saying,
"Jaida stop avoiding the question you know i'm about to ask" he said interrupting me making me sigh,
"Lando it's fine. Nothing for you to worry about" i replied as he walked over to me.

"My girlfriend's wrist is badly bruised and you're telling me it's nothing for me to worry about? What's going on Jaida. What happened?" he said,
"just go and get ready for practice we'll talk about it later" i replied as he shook his head,
"no let's talk about it now" he said,
"Lando just leave it" i replied raising my voice slightly before turning round and walking to the exit.

"Jaida! Hey how have you been" Lily said as she walked over,
"Hey Lily i'm good how are you?" i replied as i forced a smile,
"i'm good! Come on let's go get a coffee" she said as i nodded and walked with her.

I spent the whole practice thinking about mine and Lando's encounter, wondering why i was so defensive when all he was doing was caring for me.

"Jaida?" Lily said as i had zoned out for like the 10th time,
"Practice is over" she added making me nod,
"sorry Lily- I need to go and speak to Lando. It was good seeing you" i replied before she said her goodbyes and i headed straight to the McLaren lounge.

Once i got there i took a deep breath before walking in to see Lando and Oscar talking. His eyes were quick to find mine.

"Lan can we talk" i said nervously as he nodded and stood up before walking over to me, he placed his hand on my back leading me out of the lounge.

"I'm sorry. I don't know why i got so defensive" i said as he nodded,
"I just wanna know how you got them bruises because i care about you" he replied calmly as he could see i'm on the verge of tears.

"Frankie" I said,
"Frankie did it?" he asked as i nodded before telling him the story of what happened that night he didn't answer his phone.

He pulled me into his arms as tears escaped my eyes.

"I'm sorry i didn't see your calls" he said before kissing my head,
"it's not your fault." i replied as he rested his chin on my head.

"He better hope i never see him again" he said as George came round the corner.

"J? You didn't tell me you were coming to this race?" he said as i pulled away from Lando and faced George,
"surprise?" i replied making him shake his head,
"i literally saw Carmen today did she not tell you?" i added,
"no she didn't" he replied making me shrug,

"Why does Lando look pissed off? Have you two just had an argument?" George said making me shake my head,
"He's just tired" i replied as he nodded suspiciously as Lewis came round the corner.

"Hurry up George- oh hey Jaida" He said making George turn and look at him,
"hey Lewis" i replied as Lewis looked at George as if he was telling him to hurry up,
"yeah alright, see you guys later" George said to us making us nod before he and Lewis walked off.

I looked at Lando to see he did in fact look very pissed off.

"Hey please don't let this take over your mind. Focus on the race" i said to Lando as i placed my hand on his cheek,
"that man hurt you-" he was saying,
"but i'm okay! Forget about him the bruises aren't gonna be here forever" i said interrupting him,
"that's not the point Jaida he shouldn't be able to get away with doing that" he replied as i sighed.

"Please drop it Lan. For me" i said making him
sigh before nodding.

"now come on, tell me about practice, You gonna win your first race yet?" i asked making him giggle as we walked back into the McLaren lounge.
