Jaehyun spent the rest of the day, repeating his conversation with Taesan. The words hung in the air, heavy and unanswered. As he watched Taesan and Sungho talk, with their easy joking and shared glances, a fear settled into his chest. He wanted to reach out and ask Sungho directly, but the fear of the answer held him back.
He ended up in a world of unspoken feelings. He looked for an answer, anything to break through the layer of confusion and anxiety that had wrapped his thoughts.
The tension among the three of them became visible. The typical lively conversation among them was replaced by uneasy silences. Jaehyun avoided Sungho's gaze to concentrate on his work.
Dinnertime came and went, and the meal passed in awkward silent. Jaehyun found himself seated across Taesan and Sungho, and their conversation felt forced and unnatural.
With each glance that passed between them, Jaehyun's heart sank a little further. The unspoken understanding between them was unmistakable, a bond that he felt excluded from.
After dinner, he found Sungho alone is the garden. Taking a deep breath, Jaehyun approached him. "Sungho," he said, his voice trembling slightly, "Can we talk?"
Sungho looked up at him, his eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and apprehension. "Of course," he replied.
He sat down beside him, the silence stretching between them. "I couldn't help but notice the way you and Taesan look at each other," Jaehyun began, his voice low and hesitant. "Do you... do you feel something for him?"
The air, heavy with unspoken words. Sungho's expression remained unreadable. He hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "Jaehyun," he began, his voice softer than usual, "I don't know how to answer that. It's... complicated."
"I understand," Jaehyun said, forcing a smile he didn't feel. He knew he shouldn't have pushed, but the overwhelming curiosity and the fear of losing Sungho had forced him to act. "But... do you feel something for Taesan?"
Sungho shifted uncomfortably, his gaze moving away from Jaehyun's intense stare. "I... I care about Taesan," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "He's been a good friend, very supportive but I don't know if it's anything more than that."
Jaehyun's heart sank with each word Sungho said. The way he spoke, his careful tone, expressed confused emotions. He could see the spark in Sungho's eyes when he looked at Taesan, as well as the delicate touches and shared laughter, all signs of an obvious connection, even if Sungho wasn't ready to recognize it.
"Taesan...seems to feel more than a friendship," Jaehyun whispered.
"You think so?", Sungho asked, his tone hesitant. His eyes shifted to the house, where Taesan was probably already preparing for bed.
Jaehyun, sensing Sungho's hesitation, reached out and gently touched his arm. "Sungho, I know this is hard," he said softly. "But I need to know. Is there something between you and Taesan? Something more than friendship?"
