Sunoo's POV
I looked down the stairs, I had to make a choice, but only one choice...only one chance, to save...
"Jungwon!" I shouted, waving frantically for him to follow me. Without hesitation, he turned and sprinted towards me. We both bolted down the hallway, the growling of zombies getting louder behind us.
"Here!" Jungwon shouted, pointing to another hallway. We veered off, running as fast as we could. We burst out of the school, but I tripped and fell hard on the pavement. The horde was closing in.
"Sunoo, come on!" Jungwon screamed, his voice filled with panic. He stood there for a moment, then ran towards me. I scrambled to my feet, adrenaline pushing me forward. We dashed through the street, weaving between abandoned cars and debris.
We found refuge in a nearby house, slamming the door behind us. We took a moment to catch our breath, our hearts pounding. "Let's look around for useful things," Jungwon suggested. We searched the house quickly, opening drawers and cabinets in a frantic search for anything that could help us.
In a drawer, I found a gun. My heart skipped a beat as I checked it, one bullet left. I hesitated, unsure whether to hide it or tell Jungwon. After a moment of contemplation, I called out, "Jungwon!"
He came over, and I showed him the gun. "Does it have bullets?" he asked, his voice tense.
"Yeah... two," I lied, nervously.
"Give me it," he demanded. I hesitated but handed it over. "There are more weapons in the kitchen, come on," he said. We moved quickly, grabbing knives and anything sharp we could find.
We went to the kitchen and armed ourselves with knives. Jungwon slumped to the floor, grunting in exhaustion. "Fucking apocalypse," he muttered.
"Yeah, fuck the apocalypse," I agreed, sliding down next to him, our backs leaning against the cupboard.
"Do you think we'll still get to see the world after the apocalypse?" Jungwon asked, a hint of hope in his voice.
"I'm usually optimistic, but I'm not sure. The world was already fucked up before all this..." I replied.
"Yeah... Some people are also messed up," Jungwon said quietly.
I looked at him, confused. "Hm? What do you mean?"
"I mean, they would do anything for survival, even kill others," Jungwon explained.
I sighed and looked away. "Well, it is for survival. Desperation is a scary thing, but I think it's reasonable at this point."
"You think so?" Jungwon asked, his tone curious.
I nodded. "Yeah, it's always been like that. When people are pushed to their limits, they do things they never thought they could. It's not about being a good or bad person at this point, it's about making it through the next day."
Jungwon stared at the knife in his hand, his expression unreadable. "But what if that means betraying the people you're supposed to care about? What if it means crossing lines you can't come back from?"
I frowned, sensing a deeper meaning behind his words. "Jungwon, what are you getting at?"
He sighed heavily. "I just... I've seen people do terrible things. I've done terrible things. And sometimes, I wonder if I'm any different from the monsters out there."
"No, you're not a monster, Jungwon," I said firmly. "You're doing what you have to do to survive. We all are."
He shook his head. "It's easy to say that now, but what happens when you can't see your boundaries anymore? When survival means hurting the people who trust you?"
