Third-person POV (14.34 p.m.)

"Ezra, let go!" Maudie said stubbornly, trying to escape from Ezra's grasp as he forced her out of the office by the wrist.

However, even with Maudie's efforts, he was no match for Ezra's strength.

He thinks that Maudie has been working very hard for the past two weeks. Too hard, in fact, that he took the liberty of forcing her to take a day off. With the abundant number of cases, school, and her after-school clubs, he felt like she needed a day to relax and unwind. Ezra was very determined to make her feel relaxed for the day.

"Maudie, listen to me." He said calmly as his eyes met hers. "You need to unwind and have fun. You've been working too hard."

"No. I don't!" Maudie replied stubbornly.

Ezra knew she would be this frustrating and obstinate, so he planned ahead. He whipped out her notebook from his pocket and shoved it right in her face.

The surprised girl's eyes widened, and she stopped resisting.

"That's my notebook." She muttered.

"I will give it back to you if you do what I say today," Ezra said sternly.

Maudie yanked her hand away from his grasp and crossed her arms.

"You're blackmailing me with my notebook?" She asked, giving him a disapproving look.

"Yes, captain obvious. I thought you were supposed to be observant." Ezra replied. "I have your notebook hostage."

Maudie rolled her eyes.

"Fine." Maudie said bitterly. "Just know I'm doing this out of my free will."

"I can live with that." Ezra smiled.

He was quite confident about his plans for the day. Even though he had to burn half his savings for it, he thinks that it is all worth it to give Maudie a little adventure.

Later...

The duo walked around the town plaza, which was a very popular spot for teens their age to loiter around.

It was oddly quiet, though. That's because Maudie would usually start the conversations, and just like that, they wouldn't stop talking.

Ezra kept taking glances at Maudie, hoping that she would lighten up a bit, but she still looked grumpy as ever. Well, she didn't look grumpy, but Ezra could feel that she was still bitter.

Meanwhile, with Maudie, she knew that Ezra was trying to do something nice for her but can't seem to accept the fact that she was basically forced to do this.

"Hey, Maudie."

Maudie looked up, looking slightly annoyed. "What?"

"If you don't enjoy today," He started. "I'll buy you some Rose Bandong."

She raised an eyebrow as a faint smile appeared on her face. "It's pronounced 'Band-ung' not 'Band-ong'."

"Yeah yeah, whatever the pronunciation is," Ezra replied.

Maudie's smile got slightly bigger; the idea of drinking her favorite drink enticed her. Also, it was 8 dollars a cup because it was rare to find stores selling that certain Asian beverage.

"Sure."

"But you can't fib." He pointed out. "If you like it, tell me you like it."

"I would never lie to you." She reassured.
