Maudie POV

"Thank you for helping me clean up you two, Merry Christmas!" Ava said in a merry tone.

"Merry Christmas." I replied, trying to have the same level of optimism.

Ava gave one last wave before closing the door.

Ezra and I looked at each other.

"Let's head home, shall we?" Ezra asked.

I nodded.

Ezra and I started walking together.

"Ava throws the best Christmas parties, doesn't she?" I said.

"I agree, she throws great parties in general." Ezra replied.

I nodded with a small smile.

Then it was silent.

So silent that crickets were the only thing that could be heard.

But I can understand why we're so quiet,

We must be very exhausted from today.

Interacting with people can be difficult and tiring.

Considering Ezra is an introvert and I'm an ambivert.

"Hey Maudie." Ezra said, breaking the silence.

I turned my head go face him, showing him I'm all ears.

"People our age are dating, what are your thoughts on that?" Ezra asked.

That was certainly an odd question.

"I think it's fine and normal. As long as they know their boundaries, there's no problem at all." I replied.

"Oh, I see." Ezra muttered.

Then it was silent again.

Then a random conversation started popped up in my head.

"Hey Ezra, want to hear a joke?" I asked.

I know what he's going to say next.

"Before you say-" I started

"Sure." Ezra said.

My eyes widened.

He would usually say something like, "Oh here we go again." Or "Please spare me."

"Well." He said. "Go on."

"I-i uhm..." I muttered. "What did the cell say to his sister cell after stepping on his foot?"

I was still surprised by his reaction.

"What?" Ezra asked, looking genuinely curious.

"Mitosis." I said with a smile.

Ezra started laughing.

"That's not a bad one." He said, with a gigantic smile on his face.

"Really? I tried it on a lot of people, and they don't get it." I said. "Well except my dad of course."

"Maybe they just don't understand cells and mitosis." Ezra replied.

"True." I said.

"My turn, how many surrealists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" Ezra asked.
