Joe was startled as Taylor proposed the idea of starting a family. He knew he needed to end things with her, but he couldn't find the way to do it. "I think we should take some time to think about it," he replied, his voice strained with unease.
Taylor's face fell at his response, disappointment evident in her eyes. "But I thought you wanted this, Joe," she said, her voice tinged with hurt.
"I do, Taylor. I just need a little more time to be sure," Joe lied, unable to bear the thought of having a family with her.
Meanwhile, Betty counted down the days until her birthday, longing for the touch of the man she truly desired. Their video calls and texts provided little solace, pale imitations of the passion they shared in person. But Betty had another pressing concern—the funding for her third book.
She couldn't bring herself to ask Travis for the money, burdened by the weight of her guilt. Instead, she turned to Joe, hoping he would understand her predicament. "I need your help, Joe," she pleaded over the phone, her voice tinged with desperation. "My book needs more funds, and I don't know where else to turn."
Joe hesitated, whether to take more money from Taylor and his desire to be with Betty came before his eyes. As he looked into the future, he saw only one path forward—away from Taylor and towards Betty. "I'll help you, Betty. I'll do whatever it takes," he promised, his resolve hardening.
As Betty thanked him profusely, Joe made a decision. He would take the money and leave Taylor once and for all, starting a new life with Betty by his side.
Meanwhile, Travis was bubbling with excitement as Betty's birthday approached. He had big plans for the day, plans that involved a ring and a declaration of his undying love. He was certain that this time, Betty would say yes, and they would finally start a family together.
Betty sat on the edge of her bed, her hands trembling as she stared at the positive pregnancy test in disbelief. A whirlwind of emotions threatened to overwhelm her—fear, uncertainty, and a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos. She knew that her life was about to change in ways she could never have imagined.
With trembling hands, she reached for her phone and dialed Joe's number. As she waited for him to pick up, her heart pounded in her chest, the weight of her secret pressing down on her like a leaden blanket.
"Joe," she said, her voice barely above a whisper when he answered. "I... I'm pregnant."
There was a stunned silence on the other end of the line, followed by a rush of emotions. "Betty, that's amazing!" Joe exclaimed, his voice filled with joy. "I can't believe it. We're going to have a baby."
Betty felt a rush of relief flood through her at Joe's reaction. She had been so afraid of how he would respond, but his happiness was infectious, banishing her fears like a ray of sunlight breaking through the clouds.
"I know this is a lot to take in," she said, her voice trembling with emotion. "But I'm scared, Joe. What are we going to do?"
Joe's voice was filled with determination as he replied, "We'll figure it out, Betty. Together. I promise."
As they talked, Joe revealed his own secret—that he had taken money from Taylor without her knowledge and given it to Betty's team for her book. Betty was stunned by his confession, but also touched by his willingness to go to such lengths for her.
"You didn't have to do that, Joe," she said softly, her heart swelling with gratitude.
"I wanted to," he replied simply. "I want to take care of you and our baby. We'll leave all this behind and start fresh somewhere else. Just the three of us."
But even as Joe spoke, a nagging doubt lingered in the back of Betty's mind. Could they really leave everything behind and start anew? What about Travis, and the life they had built together? And what about Taylor, and the betrayal that awaited her?
As the days passed and Betty's birthday drew nearer, she couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty that gnawed at her insides. She knew that she had to tell Travis the truth, but the thought of breaking his heart filled her with dread.
And so, as she prepared for her birthday party, Betty wrestled with her conscience, torn between the desire for a fresh start with Joe and the guilt of betraying the man who loved her.
But fate, it seemed, had its own plans in store. And as Betty stood on the precipice of a new beginning, she could only wonder what twists and turns lay ahead on the journey that awaited her.
