It was someone's birthday at the office, and we were having a party. I offered to pick up Taylor from her home, and she accepted. I was happy about it. However, in the evening, Jason's daughter started crying, insisting she wanted to join me. It took a while to calm her down and leave. I was wearing a suit, trying to make up for the lost time.
Meanwhile, Taylor waited at home for Travis to arrive. When she heard a car horn, she assumed it was him and ran downstairs since they were already late. But instead of Travis, she found Shawn standing there.
"Shawn? I'm sorry, I thought it was Travis," Taylor said, confused.
Shawn's expression darkened. "Why would you go with Travis?" He paused, then lied smoothly. "Taylor, Travis called me. He said he had a conference with the NFL and told me to pick you up and take you to the party. He'll arrive late. Don't you believe me?"
Taylor hesitated but didn't want to cause a scene. "Okay, let's go."
On the other hand, I was rushing to Taylor's home, cursing myself for being late. When I arrived, the house was locked from the outside. I tried calling her, but she didn't hear the phone ring because she was already at the party.
Shawn noticed Taylor's phone ringing on the table. He picked it up and walked away to answer it. "Hey Travis, it's Shawn."
I was immediately tense. "Where's Taylor?"
"We came together to the party. She called me, said you were making her wait, and she didn't like it. So I picked her up. Come soon, man," Shawn said, then hung up with a smirk and returned to Taylor.
I was fuming. Something didn't add up. I rushed to the party, my mind racing with worry and anger.
At the party, Shawn rejoined Taylor, his smirk not quite hidden. Taylor noticed the change in his demeanor and felt uneasy but didn't say anything. When I finally arrived, I spotted them together and my heart sank.
When Travis arrived at the party, the music was loud and everyone was dancing their hearts out. His eyes scanned the room until he spotted Shawn, who was uncomfortably close to Taylor. Shawn had his hands on her hips, moving suggestively. Taylor's discomfort was evident, but she kept quiet, not wanting to create a scene in front of all their colleagues.
Shawn's hands started to slide lower towards her ass, and that was the last straw for Travis. His anger flared uncontrollably. "Taylor!" he shouted from across the room. "Why don't you come here?"
Taylor felt a rush of relief. She quickly disengaged from Shawn and ran towards Travis. "How did your conference go?" she asked, still shaken.
Travis's face twisted in confusion and anger. "What conference?" he snapped. He grabbed Taylor by her arms and led her to a quieter corner, away from the dance floor. She was wearing a gown with waist cuts, which had given Shawn the opportunity to touch her inappropriately.
Travis's eyes were blazing with fury. "Were you really comfortable there, Taylor?" he shouted. "Why don't you speak up for yourself? Firstly, you couldn't wait for me to pick you up, and now you're dancing with him like you're a couple. Really?"
Taylor turned to Travis, her eyes flashing with anger. "Firstly, I was not dancing with him like a couple, and secondly, you were late. He helped me reach the party, that's it. I didn't want to create a scene in front of everyone, Travis. Why are you overreacting?"
Travis clenched his fists, trying to control his temper. Just then, Shawn appeared behind them with a smug smile. "Why don't you guys join the party?"
Travis forced a tight smile. "We'll come in a moment."
But Taylor, still furious, turned to Shawn. "Actually, I'll join you now." She let Shawn take her hand and lead her back to the party.
Travis watched them walk away, his anger boiling over. He strode to the nearest table and punched it hard until his hand bled. Ignoring the pain, he stormed out of the party, leaving a trail of blood droplets behind him.
Taylor glanced around, looking for Travis, but he was nowhere to be seen. She sighed, feeling a mix of frustration and sadness. "If he's that angry, let him be," she muttered to herself. "First, he didn't pick me up and now he's shouting at me for that. And he really thought Shawn and I were a couple? I won't talk to you, Travis," she thought, her resolve hardening as she tried to enjoy the rest of the party despite the turmoil in her heart.
Travis gripped the steering wheel tightly, his bleeding palm throbbing in pain. But the real pain was emotional, not physical. "How could she avoid me to go with Shawn? How could she let him touch her like that?" he muttered to himself, his mind racing with anger and hurt. He barely noticed the truck coming straight at him until it was too late. Swerving hard, he tried to avoid it, but the collision was inevitable.
The truck crashed into his car with a deafening noise. As Travis's vision started to fade, he mumbled, "Taylor," before slipping into unconsciousness.
Back at the party, Taylor turned suddenly, feeling an odd sensation as if Travis had called out to her. But he wasn't there. Growing increasingly restless, she pulled out her phone and called him.
After a few rings, a voice answered, "Mam, can you please come to the hospital? He is injured."
Her heart sank. "What? Where is he? Is he okay?" she stammered.
"Please come to the hospital," the officer repeated.
Taylor didn't waste a second. She ran out of the party, her heart pounding with fear and worry. Racing to the hospital, she could only think of Travis. "Please be okay, Travis. Please," she whispered to herself, her eyes filling with tears.
