It was Betty's birthday, a day that should have been filled with joy and celebration. But as she looked around at the decorations and the guests arriving, all she felt was a gnawing anxiety. Joe had arrived, and the weight of what they were about to do pressed heavily on her.
Joe approached her, his eyes filled with determination. "Betty, we have to leave now. If we wait until the party starts, there will be too many people around. It'll be impossible to slip away unnoticed."
Betty nodded, her heart pounding. She knew he was right, but the thought of leaving everything behind, especially Travis, filled her with dread. "I know, Joe. I'm just so nervous. I don't want to hurt anyone, but we have to do this for us, for our baby."
Joe took her hands in his, his grip firm and reassuring. "We will be okay. We need to think about our future now. Let's go."
Betty had packed a small bag with the essentials she would need. She took a deep breath and made her way to Travis, who was busy chatting with some guests. She wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Betty, what's wrong?" Travis asked, sensing her distress.
She couldn't bring herself to say the words that would break his heart. Instead, she whispered, "Nothing," and pulled away, unable to meet his gaze.
Before Travis could question her further, Betty hurried to the back door where Joe had parked his car. He was waiting, the engine running, ready to make their escape. Without looking back, she slipped into the passenger seat. Joe leaned over and kissed her, a mix of relief and anticipation in his eyes.
"Are you ready?" he asked, his voice steady but filled with urgency.
Betty nodded, her heart aching but resolute. "Yes, let's go."
Joe put the car in gear and they drove off, leaving behind the life they had known. As they sped away from the house, Betty looked back one last time, guilt weighing heavily on her but a sense of hope starting to take root.
"We're finally starting fresh," Joe said, squeezing her hand as they drove into the unknown.
Betty rested her head against the seat, closing her eyes. "Yes, guilty but happy," she echoed, holding on to the promise of a new beginning for them and their unborn child.
The birthday party was in full swing, but the celebratory atmosphere quickly turned to one of confusion and worry as people began to realize that Betty was nowhere to be found. Travis's anxiety grew with each passing minute. He had been excited to propose, but now he could only think of where she might be.
Taylor, who came to Kansas to surprise Joe , felt a strange, unexplainable anxiety gnawing at her. She tried calling Joe, needing to hear his voice for reassurance, but her calls went unanswered. Frustration turned to worry as she tried repeatedly.
At the party, Travis's concern escalated to panic. "Has anyone seen Betty?" he asked frantically, moving from guest to guest.
"No, Travis. She was here just a minute ago," someone replied, equally confused.
As the minutes turned to an hour, both Taylor and Travis received unexpected calls from their partners' numbers. Taylor's phone rang just as she was about to dial Joe again.
"Joe?" she answered, her voice hopeful but tense.
"Ms. Swift? This is Officer Martinez. We need you to come to the location we will send you immediately."
Taylor's heart plummeted. "What happened? Is he okay?" she asked, her voice shaking.
"Please, just come as soon as you can."
Across the country, Travis received a similar call. "Hello, Travis Kelce?" a voice on the other end said.
"Yes, this is Travis. Who is this?"
"This is Officer Hernandez. We have some urgency. You need to come to the location we will text you right away."
Travis's heart raced. "What do you mean? What happened?"
"Please, just come quickly," the officer repeated.
Taylor rushed to the location. Her mind was a whirlwind of fear and confusion. She couldn't understand what had happened or why Joe hadn't contacted her.
Travis, equally distraught, made his way to the address he was given, his thoughts racing. What could have happened to Betty? Why had she disappeared?
Both arrived at the location within hours, their paths converging at a grim intersection. As they reached the venue, police escorted them to a somber scene. The wreckage of a car crash lay before them, the mangled metal a stark contrast to the lives it had disrupted.
Officer Martinez approached Taylor, who was pale and trembling. "Ms. Swift, I'm very sorry. Joe Alwyn and Betty Kelce were in the vehicle."
Travis, who had just arrived, overheard and turned to the officer. "Betty? Where is she?"
The officer led them closer. There, in the wreckage, they saw Joe and Betty, holding hands even in death. The sight was too much for Travis, who stood paralyzed by shock and grief. Taylor was too broken at the moment to notice anything else.
Taylor choked back a sob. "Joe... what happened? Open your eyes"
Travis clenched his fists, fighting back tears. "Betty, why didn't you tell me?"
The officers tried to offer comfort, but the reality was too raw. Taylor and Travis, connected by the love and betrayal of their partners, were left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
In the silent aftermath, they could only stand together, united by their shared loss and the painful truths that had been uncovered.
