As Travis lay in the deserted house, his eyes swollen from crying, Taylor sat by his side, holding his hand. The room was dimly lit, casting a soft glow on Travis's weary face. Taylor's mind raced with the revelation that had just occurred. She had to be sure before she confronted her thoughts.

"Travis," Taylor said gently, her voice trembling. "Why does it bother you so much to think that I might be with Shawn? Why would you do this to yourself over something like that?"

Travis's eyes, filled with a mix of pain and desperation, met hers. He pulled her closer, his grip tight as if he feared she might disappear. "I love you, Taylor," he shoutout, his voice breaking. "I love you so much that it actually hurts to see you with someone else. I can't lose you, Taylor. I want you for myself."

Taylor was too stunned to speak immediately. The intensity of his confession, his raw emotion, left her momentarily speechless. She felt his tears on her shoulder as he hugged her tightly, sobbing into her.

She took a deep breath, trying to steady her own racing heart. "Travis, you're a good man," she began softly, pulling back slightly to look into his eyes. "You deserve the world. But I...I can't love you. Especially after what happened with Joe. The betrayal, the pain...it's all too much. I don't think I can ever love anyone again."

Travis's grip loosened, and he looked at her, his eyes searching hers for any sign of hope. "But Taylor, we have something special. I feel it, and I thought you did too. We've shared so much. Doesn't that mean anything to you?"

Tears welled up in Taylor's eyes, but she blinked them back. "It does, Travis. It means a lot. You've been a wonderful friend, more than I could have asked for. But that's all I can see you as—a friend. My heart is too shattered to love again. I'm so sorry."

She could see the devastation in his eyes, and it broke her heart to have to say these words. Travis looked down, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I thought maybe I could be the one to heal you, Taylor. I thought maybe...maybe we could be happy together."

Taylor squeezed his hand, her voice barely above a whisper. "I wish it were that simple. But my heart just isn't ready. It's not about you, Travis. It's about me and the scars I carry."

Travis nodded slowly, his expression one of deep sorrow. "I understand. I just...I had to tell you how I feel. I couldn't keep it inside anymore."

Taylor leaned in and kissed his forehead gently. "Thank you for being honest with me. It means a lot. And I hope we can still be friends, Travis. I don't want to lose you from my life."

He managed a weak smile, though his eyes were still filled with tears. "Of course, Taylor. I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

They sat in silence for a while, the weight of the conversation hanging heavy in the air. Taylor felt a mix of relief and sadness, knowing she had to protect her heart but also fearing she might have lost something precious. She held his hand tightly, both of them drawing comfort from the simple connection.

As the night wore on, Taylor stayed by Travis's side, her thoughts a whirlwind of emotions. She knew she had made the right decision for herself, but it didn't make it any easier. Seeing Travis in pain because of her was something she never wanted, but she had to be true to her own heart.

Eventually, Travis drifted off to sleep, exhausted from the emotional turmoil. Taylor watched him, her heart aching for the friend she cared so deeply about. She hoped that one day he would find someone who could love him the way he deserved. For now, she would be there for him as a friend, supporting him through this difficult time.

The next morning, Taylor gently woke Travis. "Hey, how are you feeling?"

Travis opened his eyes slowly, a mix of emotions still evident but he couldn't remember anything that happened yesterday because of the alcohol. "Better, I guess. Thanks for staying with me."

Taylor smiled softly. "Always, Travis. Now let's get you home and get you better."
