"What do you mean you don't know?" I asked my brother.

"It means I don't know," Gabriel said, looking over Samuel like the answer would magically appear in front of him.

"How can you not know?" If these beings of the unknown had no idea what was going on, what the hell were we supposed to do?

"Contrary to what you think, I am not told every single thing that happens in this universe. When I say I don't know, it means I. Don't. Know. Devina." He snapped, stepping away from the mortal.

"Maybe you should retreat to your room," Michael said to Samuel, offering him a warm smile. "We need to discuss things that mortals don't need to hear about."

We all waited until Samuel left the room before a quietness ensued. Raising a brow, I questioned my youngest brother silently.

"What we don't need is your condescending temperament. That will get us nowhere." Gabriel hissed. "Surely, we would've been notified if the rapture was on its way, right?" He asked the other two brothers. I felt myself shrink as I remembered the little tidbit of information I had forgotten to mention.

"I don't know," Raphael answered, leaning himself against the throne. "Like you said, we aren't told everything."

Michael noticed me grow smaller as the other two conversed amongst themselves. He smiled and walked between Gabriel and Raphael.

"You know the rapture isn't coming, don't you, Devina." Michael taunted, pushing all the attention on me.

"What do you mean?" Gabriel pressed on, glaring at me. "She said she was not able to collect souls. Therefore, she would decay and-," He cut himself off with realization.

"You're able to collect souls, aren't you." Raphael deadpanned.

"Well, it seems I forgot to mention that The Karmic Guild went over my head and sent orders to one of my succubi. I collected it last night."

While my two younger brothers looked at me, nonplussed, my older brother sighed in relief.

"That's great news, then! No impending doom to all of humanity. Why aren't you guys happy?" Michael exclaimed.

"Well, our sister has brought us down here on suspicions of an emergency and forgot to tell us that it was, in fact, not an emergency." Gabriel snapped.

I brushed him off with a wave of my hand.

"You guys were already on your way down here. Besides, the rapture isn't coming, but we still have an issue. I still cannot reap Samuel's soul. The Karmic Guild decided he should be brought here only to not have his soul taken and banished to The Pit. What was the point? Furthermore, why is The Karmic Guild going over my head and giving orders to my succubi?" I pondered aloud. "Something is wrong."

"She's right, you guys," Michael added. "Gabriel, you couldn't even get inside him. How many mortals have you come across that have refused your soul? Zero. And since when has The Karmic Guild strayed from tradition? They never break the rules, no exception."

"So, what you're saying is we're right back where we started? All we know is that he's special." Raphael sighed, raking his hand down his face in annoyance.

"Well, that just means we have to get to know him. I suggest we question him over breakfast tomorrow." Michael chimed in, nodding his head as if that was the best idea.

"Or we could just question him now and spare the breakfast pleasantries for someone that matters," I remarked snidely.

"Oh, Devina, my dear sister. Ever the friendly optimist, aren't you?" Michael said, knocking his shoulder with me.
