Surge and Shadow! A Dark Duo is Born!

CHP 4: Beginning of an Unrivaled Duo!

Previously, Eggman led an attack on the weakened Restoration HQ, but Shadow and Sonic's team managed to drive him away. Sonic and the Resistance find out that Surge is with Team Dark. Shadow refuses to give Surge away, and after a short dispute, Sonic agrees. With Eggman's location now known, Shadow takes off to Eggman's old hideout to further question Surge.

Shadow: We'll need to talk some more.

Surge: [sigh] Fine by me.

Shadow: What was your plan to destroy Restoration HQ? How did you do it?

Surge: Kit and I were simply given our targets to hit while their guards were down.

Surge: But that was just a distraction for whatever that Clutch guy did.

Rouge: So, you didn't know anything about the explosions?

Surge: [shrugs] We weren't told anything else on purpose. We just knew something bad was going to happen.

Shadow: This Clutch is certainly something. We'll have to deal with him eventually.

Surge: Yeah, well, good luck with that. He's the most mysterious guy you'll ever know.

Shadow: Onto the next question. Why did Eggman want you and the Fenrec? What is he after?

Surge: I don't know... He said something about us being for his research purposes.

Rouge: For his research?

Surge: We're basically cyborgs made to kill Sonic, remember? He might be trying to make more people like us.

Shadow: So, you think he's trying to recreate Starline's research?

Surge: It makes me sick just thinking about it, but that's the only reason I can see why.

Surge: If that's what he's going for, then I'll make sure to take that lunatic down if it's the last thing I do!

Shadow: If you're planning on fighting Eggman, then just forget about it.

Rouge looks surprised.

Surge: What?

Shadow: Unfortunately, I can't let you go just yet.

Surge starts to get irritated.

Surge: Now look here! Just because you saved me doesn't mean you can boss me around!

Surge: I'm leaving whether you like it or not!

Rouge: Shadow, what's going on? Are you going to turn her in?

Shadow: No, but the last thing I need is her getting captured by Eggman. It will just give us more problems.

Surge: Hey, don't you dare look down on me! I'm not getting captured by that freak!

Shadow: If I recall you almost died to the doctor. If we didn't show up, you'd be done for.
