"Endeavor, do you have a moment?" The door cracked open, waking Endeavor up at the sound of their guest. They turned back over their shoulder, away from the plans on their desk to see a young man standing in their doorway. For a moment, they were much younger. A smile broke out over their face before realization caught up to them.
So much like his grandfather, they thought as they motioned to the young man to join them. "Yes, Faron, how can I help?"
"Lady Impa would like to see you, when you have time," the prince replied, a little too quickly as he twisted his right hand around his left fingers. Nervous, the prince had always been nervous around them. As had his grandfather, when they'd first met.
Endeavor nodded, turning back to the notes on their desk. Plans were spread across it haphazardly. Endeavor had never gotten used to the small quarters in Hyrule Castle since they had moved here, but they were one to keep their secrets. These last details for their library were theirs, only one other copy existed, passed on to their daughter a few weeks prior. Impa could wait. Their rivalry had grown more civil over the last eighty years, but it had never gone away. This could remain with the Drex.
"Endeavor?" Faron asked, leaning over the back of Endeavor's chair.
Swatting him back, Endeavor fussed, "Back a step, back a step. I am old, not senile."
"My apologies," Faron corrected, a little too courtly for his grandfather. Endeavor chuckled and shook their head while Faron stepped to the side to get her attention again. "About Lady Impa?"
Endeavor shooed him away as they collected their notes, the ones they would share. "I will be there."
"Do you need any help?"
They shook their head, shooing him yet again. This time Faron did leave, closing the door behind him.
They waited for a moment, as the steps disappeared, before slowly rising. Joints popped as they rose, and they had to acknowledge for a moment their age with frustration. They leaned over their desk to look out the window of their chambers where it faced the courtyard.
Distantly, they saw the steeple of the new Temple of Time rising in the middle of Castle Town. When the repairs of the city had been completed, then Queen Zelda had called for its construction. The new Temple shared the style of the original, though there were a few new features. Many Endeavor had helped plan as well, their details one of their few remaining secrets.
Beyond, they could see the Hero's Shrine. A new statue had been constructed there to honor the Hero of the Convergence. After he had passed though, Endeavor found it hard to look on it. Shortly after, they pulled themself away from the window.
"You have done incredibly work, My champion."
An ink bottle clattered to the floor, shattering. There was a great scrapping of wood as Endeavor turned themself around, their eyes growing wide at the sight. So awed, they didn't notice how their chest grew lighter as they looked up at their Goddess.
"Lady Reechka," Endeavor said, dropping to a knee and bowing, not pausing to notice the ease they had in the motion either.
A hand rested under their chin and lifted it. Reechka offered them a gentle smile, before extending a hand. "Come with Me."
Endeavor rose as easily as they had in her youth. They took the Goddess's hand and the Two walked on, leaving their chamber behind. They never looked back to see the mess they had left poor Faron to come and collect when they didn't make their appointment with Impa.
