Soriyah paces back and forth in her dorm, irritated and huffing because she can't deal with Derek Mobley anymore.
She tried to tolerate him, all his jokes, his condescending remarks and comments, but today he really got to her.
"Mommy, I can't... I just can't. Can you pleaaase...talk to Daddy about transferring me into another school... please."
"Un uh, don't 'Mommy' me, Soriyah! I should'a gave you some siblings because all 'yo spoiled ass gotta do is start whining, and you end up getting whatever you want. Nope, we're not letting you this time!"
"Mommyyy, that's not wha—." She whined some more, but was quickly cut off by her mother's harsh voice.
"Soriyah, SHUT UP. There you go, whining again!" Rhonda yelled back, then she lowered her voice, sighing and speaking with a calmer tone. "Now this boy...Derek. Is he hitting on you?"
"No." Soriyah sighed admittedly, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Is he verbally abusing you?"
"No, Mom."
"Okay, good. 'Cause your daddy would've came up there to wear his ass out."
"He can still do that, forreal."
"Shut up. What did he say to you that made you so mad?"
"He...He called me..." She said, sniffling in between her words. "He called me Chef Boyardeeeee." Soriyah squealed, whining and bawling out as she cried dramatically.
And Rhonda never hung up on her daughter so quick.
"Chile, you got to be kidding me," Rhonda swiftly pressed the hang-up button on her phone, a faint sigh escaping her as she shook her head.
Keith, her husband came into their room, tossing their packed luggage aside to see what the fuss was all about, having just heard his little princess crying on the speaker phone a few moments ago.
"What's wrong with my baby?" Keith asked, concern furrowing his brow as he picked up on Rhonda's unsettled energy.
"Mmm mm mm." She sighed, squeezing her temples. "She wants to transfer schools because some boy called her Chef Boyardee."
Keith looked at her, stunned for a moment before breaking into boisterous laughter. "Wait...what? Are you serious?"
"As a heart attack," Rhonda replied, deadpanning him before a smile crept over her face. And then she thought about it, the idea that their sassy and assertive little girl wanted to switch schools over a boy was cute and downright hilarious. In between his laughter, Keith wiped a joyful tear from his eye and gave a mesmerizing smile to Rhonda, who was now chuckling too.
"Our daughter needs to toughen up," Keith mused, grinning even wider. "She's already a beast in the kitchen and at school, looks like she 'done found her kryptonite."
"Mhm. All 'cause of a boy named Derek." Rhonda agreed, her laughter subsiding into a fond smile. "He probably likes her. I can't think of any other reason that boy would be targeting her like that."
"Yup." Keith nodded. "She'll be alright. Give her some time."
