"Jadaaa!" I dragged her name excitedly. "Lemme see it again. Fuck, my future brother-in-law ate with this ring selection!" I squealed as I looked down, on the verge of crying at how my best friend's ring finger is no longer bare.

"I know, he did, huh?" Jada gloated, and now we're both tearing up. Jada wipes a single tear from her eye and I do the same. "I'm still shocked."

"Shit, I would be too."

"Soriyahhh, when he got down on one knee, my heart damn near bursted." Jada said and I pouted as I watched the dreamy smile playing on her lips. "Then he opened the box and like a dumbass, I was like, 'Shit! That's for me? Girl, I gave that nigga so much pussy that night, oh...my...fucking...God."

Listening to Jada talk, I'm reminded of her Facebook post of the proposal. It was beautiful, Javonte, booked a private area on the beach for he and Jada. He had an intimate dinner with beautiful lighting set up for them and then, on cue with the setting sun, he dropped to one knee. The moment was captured perfectly by a hidden photographer that 'Vonte had hired.

So we bought drinks to celebrate, ordered the best takeout and cleared our evening so that Jada and I could spend as much time with each other. Because we know that pretty soon, our wedding planning for her would soon take up most of our shared time, and I'm okay with that.

Laughing, we pounced up and down in the sitting position on my bed, giggling and squealing' like a bunch of schoolgirls sharing secrets with each other during recess.

"Bitch, I'm so fucking hype right now, we need to dance some of this excitement off. Let's go to the club on Saturday." She said, still giggling and I nodded, already imagining us in our baddest outfits, turnin' up at our favorite spot downtown.

"Girl, hell yeah, we 'gone be out there actin' a fucking fool, celebrating my bestie's engagement."

My excitement still flows through me but my movement stills when a text popped up on my phone, from Derek.

"Y'all havin fun?" He asked and my heart started pounding as I peered at the bright screen, a constant reminder to me that Jada still doesn't know... about us.

Derek stayed in New York with me for three days before his flight back home, and I was behind him two days later. Then today, a few days after, Jada and 'Vonte came back from their trip with official news of the engagement. So I was happy that I could finally share my excitement with her.

But consuming all these drinks and listening to my best friend talking about her engagement, mixed with thoughts of Derek, has me feeling emotional. I was thrilled for her, genuinely happy that she and Javonte are finally doing what Jada and I always fantasized about in high school, up until a few days ago.

And then I start pouting again, because I don't want to keep lying to her... about Derek and the fact that we've been intimate for almost two months now.
