Also Gabby trying to be a villain is so adorable and her defending Grett was top tier

The sky was a dark blue, only being illuminated by the passing street lighs and the headlights of nearby cars. The road was smooth and mostly straight, and with hardly any traffic.

All Ellie could hear was the quiet purr of the busses engine, whispers of the other contestants, and the slow breaths of the red-sweatered girl leaning on her, sleeping with a smile.

Ellie, unlike her girlfriend, was awake, taking in the view of the passing road signs and rare wildlife and letting her mind run wild. It jumped from thought to thought, like ways to make drivers wear seat belts to how many different license plates she could see. She saw 9.

Eventually, she thought of Gabby, then thought of the game. How she didn't tell Gabby the truth, focused on the game more than her own girlfriend.

How she spilled black coffee on Mr whiskers ear and couldn't get the stain out.

She internally cringed at every thought of the terrible things she'd done in the game, not even just to Gabby.

To Tom and Aiden, leading them into conflict with Jake.

To Tess, always making her the swing vote.

To Lake, eliminating her over a misunderstanding.

All for the three million dollars that she nor Gabby ended up winning, right?

She felt like such an asshole. She could feel tears arising, and the lump in her throat forming. It hurt, her eyes burned.

She didn't want to cry; she told herself she deserved everything.

And she convinced herself of that.

She did deserve it.

She felt a sudden weight get lifted off of her side and looked to see Gabby sitting up and rubbing her eyes.

"Ellie...? You're still up?" Gabby said tiredly. "What time is it? Are we almost to the airport?" She fully opened her eyes to see Ellie looking away.

She was hiding her tears, who were almost flooding her tear ducts. She wiped them from the corners of her eyes, and turned to her girlfriend.

"Yes... we're closed" she said, quieter than she wanted to. The lump in her throat felt as if was obstructing her voice box.

Gabby noticed Ellies hardly audible and wobbly voice. She felt a bit guilty for not noticing before. "Love, are you okay? What's wrong?" She asked, pulling she ginger girl into a tight and loving hug.

Ellie lay her head on Gabbys shoulder as she whispered, "I'm sorry. I'm s-so sorry Gabby."

Gabby loosened the hug and looked Ellie in the face. Ellie looks down in shame, tears now fully streaming in face as she quietly sobbed. "What do you mean Ellie? You didn't do anything?"

"Yes, y-yes I did." Ellie said, burying her head back into Gabbys shoulder. "I lied to you and so many other people. I'm a t-terrible person Gabby. A terrible horrible person."

Gabby frowned a bit. She didn't understand what Ellie was talking about at all. She already apologized for what she did in the game. Why was she still sad about it?

"I don't know who told you that, but they're wrong. So, so wrong." Ellie lifted her head up to face Gabby, who had a soft and caring yet stern expression. "You cared for me when nobody else did. You took me into your home when my dad kicked me out. And you even gave Mr Whiskers a cool new birthmark!" Gabby beamed, holding up the stuffed rabbit and playing with its ears.

"Don't be sad, Ellie" Gabby said, pretending to be Mr Whiskers. "Me and Gabby love you very much! I think I love you more than she does!" Ellie smiled at Gabbys antics.

"No you don't, I love her more!" Gabby said, pretending to argue with the toy. They 'bantered'for a little bit more before Ellie intervened.

"Okay, okay. I get it. You both love me very much. You don't have to fight over me!" Ellie said, giggling.

"You feel better now?" Ellie nodded, rubbing her eyes and wiping away any excess tears. "Good, now let's get to bed. You look especially tired." Ellie laid her against against Gabby, and Gabby did the same.

"Goodnight Gabs. Thank you for everything. I love you."

"Thank you for everything. And I love you too, my love."
