"YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!"
Wonwoo was slammed sideways into a wall. A feisty voice rang in his ears; it belonged to a girl, he took note, and a palm pressed his face tightly to the wall.
From the corner of his eye, Wonwoo observed several pairs of shoes crowding around him and the person that had him cornered, and it only heightened his frustration further. He was not going to be humiliated in front of too-eager spectators once again.
He shoved his shoulder to the side, managing to wiggle himself out of the claw-like nails glued to his face. He was surprised, although he felt he'd expected something like this, to see Lee Chaeyeon burning holes in him through her fiery gaze. Putting forth an unbothered, neutral face, Wonwoo calmly questioned her. Getting violent first thing in the morning didn't sound so appealing anymore.
"What the fuck is your problem?" he asked, fists clenched at his sides, and for the first time, he wasn't scared enough to hide them.
"You're just here to ruin things, aren't you, Jeon?"
"Ruin what? I don't even know you,"
"But you know Mingyu,"
Wonwoo's heart nearly stopped.
"And what about him?"
"He's fucking gone. All because of you!"
"What do you mean gone!?"
"HE'S SHIPPED OFF TO CHINA! JUST BECAUSE OF YOU!"
Wonwoo wondered what she meant saying that. Although he was curious, he walked away, feigning indifference. He'd planned to stop right in front of his first classroom for the day, but the motive faded when Chaeyeon yelled something that gathered every bit of his attention.
"YOUR LITTLE HANGOUT IS THE REASON WHY HE'S STUCK IN FUCKING CHINA FOR A WHOLE YEAR!"
Wonwoo stopped in his spot, not wanting to turn back in fear of the others standing near Chaeyeon. The hallway went dead silent, with Wonwoo's shoes' tapping the tiled floor being the only source of any sound as he eventually turned back to confirm what he'd just heard. Chaeyeon could be messing with him, and Mingyu may not actually be gone. Maybe he was just sick and unable to attend any classes today.
"What?" Wonwoo questioned, sounding quite stupid even to himself.
"You heard me well enough the first time, Jeon, don't act dumb,"
"Why are you so worked up that Mingyu's gone, though?"
He just hoped Chaeyeon wasn't able to see through the detached question. Truth was, the question was the only thing covering up the fact that he himself was worked up by Mingyu's sudden departure. Wonwoo was sure as fuck the despondence was as clear as day on his face, and he wasn't bothered to hide it. Maybe it would get rumours about him flooding Pledis, but he had better things to think of.
There was a smug smile playing on Chaeyeon's face from where Wonwoo saw her. He stood frozen, and so did she. Wonwoo wanted to punch the victorious look taking up her face.
"Fuck you," Wonwoo spat, treading away to the classroom, unfortunately, not before hearing the last word from Chaeyeon.
"I have a girlfriend, Jeon, you don't need to tell me that,"
--
Wonwoo, head limp on a book on his desk, replayed his morning at Pledis over and over again. Chaeyeon had been speaking the truth, after all. Mingyu was, in fact, in China, as he'd gotten it confirmed from the faculty later. Why was he in China? That too for a whole year? Surely his psycho mother wouldn't let him skip an entire year of education, would she?
Wonwoo missed the way he'd spent his day yesterday. Specifically since Mingyu had been part of it. So much had happened yesterday, almost as if a huge chunk of his life was stored just in those twenty-four hours.
Out of desperation, Wonwoo snagged his phone from his pocket, wanting to send in a text to Mingyu. The idea was stupid, Wonwoo knew that, but trying wouldn't hurt.
He clicked his tongue, realising it would, in fact, hurt.
When he stared at the lame text he sent over two hours ago, he realised there was no point in expecting a reply from Mingyu. There wasn't any way the boy could communicate back. Quickly completing whatever stuff he had left, Wonwoo retired to his bed, staring at the ceiling with nothing particular to think about. He found himself observing ceilings a bit too much lately.
His phone, left forgotten somewhere on his bed, emitted a buzzing sound, which successfully gathered his attention. A bit too hastily, he rolled over to the check the notification he just got. When he saw the contact glaring at him, he refused to believe it really was a reply from Mingyu.
Exhaling sharply in disbelief, Wonwoo opened it to see a long text, clumsily explaining Mingyu's situation. Mingyu hadn't mentioned a reason behind it, but if Chaeyeon had been furiously pointing fingers at Wonwoo that morning, Wonwoo knew that too.
'Was Chaeyeon not spitting bullshit then?' he typed in, after Mingyu was done with his rant. He expected Mingyu to get confused, like he always did, but surprisingly, he seemed to know exactly what Wonwoo referred to.
'No, I'm guessing she went batshit crazy on you?'
The text made Wonwoo snort. 'Batshit crazy' was a severe understatement. 'Worse, she's so unnecessarily obsessive over you' Wonwoo quickly tapped his keyboard, in anticipation that Mingyu could go offline any second.
'She has a girlfriend too'
'She mentioned'
'Lmao how?'
So Wonwoo took to describing the incident through text, with Mingyu interrupting every now and then with tiny exclamations. 'Are you hurt?' he asked in the end.
Wonwoo, flustered, didn't respond immediately. 'No, why do you care?' he typed.
'Gods, you just said we're friends, Wonwoo!'
'I was so close to snapping her neck in half, tbh'
'I'm proud you didn't'
'Proud?'
'You're learning to control your random outbursts!'
'Right'
None of them said anything for a while after that, but Mingyu still remained online.
'When are you coming back?' Wonwoo finally asked.
He received a reply immediately. 'I have no idea. If I don't screw up here, probably around the time next term begins'
'That's long'
'Aw, miss me already?'
'No I don't, I can just be curious'
'Sure~'
'Mingyu istg-'
'Alright I'll stop'
'Mother's calling, I need to go. She'll smell something fishy if I don't pick up right away. Take care, Wonwoo. Don't get into fights.' Mingyu typed a few moments later.
'Stop treating me like a child, go away.'
'I am. Bye~'
'Bye'
