"Have you ever been in the rain?"
Wonwoo asked, wrapped around Mingyu on the bed, with cosy, threatening sunlight filtering in the room through the looming clouds in the sky. He could see, and smell, rain coming. He knew it wouldn't be long before tiny drops started falling from the sky, and Wonwoo wanted to go outdoors and make the best of the opportunity.
He loved the rain, but every time earlier he'd seen it outside the window, he never thought of going outside to experience it. The rain had somehow always managed to bring forth unwanted memories Wonwoo had made efforts, albeit pointless, to forget. But after all that had happened, he had a feeling nothing of that sort would happen; he would simply get to enjoy the raindrops drenching him.
Mingyu shuffled next to him, and Wonwoo felt him shake his head.
"You've never gotten wet in the rain? You've been missing out, Mingyu,"
"No, I loathe when it rains. It gets so gross and sticky," Mingyu shuddered.
Wonwoo didn't believe the utter disrespect coming from his boyfriend's mouth. If he could go even a few hours without talking to him, Wonwoo would have sulked. But he, unfortunately, wasn't capable of doing so.
He just sighed, letting Mingyu in on his disappointment in him, making Mingyu question him incredulously. "What? I can have an opinion!"
"I've kept quiet,"
"Right,"
Wonwoo turned to see Mingyu bashfully looking at him. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to his neck, since his face was out of reach. "We should probably get up. Or I could, I really wanna go in the rain. I'd like if you could just accompany me,"
Mingyu agreed without hesitating. "Okay,"
"Thank you,"
By the time the both of them were done with their morning businesses – including the mandatory caffeine intake that kept them sane, despite the temporary absence of major assignments – tiny droplets of rain had already covered most of the window panes. Wonwoo sat at the couch, waiting for Mingyu, at the observation, and peered at the drops at the very top of the balcony doors to see them race across the plane of glass. He quietly cheered for a droplet, getting disappointed soon enough when it didn't trail down the fastest.
"You're cute when you're invested,"
Mingyu came and sat behind him, dropping his arms over Wonwoo's shoulders. He missed the blush painted over Wonwoo's cheeks.
"Can we go?"
"Sure,"
When they reached downstairs, with Wonwoo having impatiently tapped his foot on the flooring throughout the elevator ride, he ran ahead, leaving Mingyu to follow him.
Raindrops wetted his shirt in no time, as Wonwoo beckoned Mingyu to follow him. Mingyu went, not caring where Wonwoo took him. The look of pure joy on his face was the only thing Mingyu focused on. He loved seeing Wonwoo happy.
Minutes later, Mingyu found himself on the campus track, and saw Wonwoo enjoying the way rain fell on him. Truth be told, Mingyu hated getting cold and drenched in the rain. Yet he, although reluctantly, walked towards Wonwoo to hug him, simply because it was one of the rare times he witnessed him letting go, without a single worry or thought to bother him.
Wonwoo stood out beautifully in the rain – his recently silver-dyed hair looking like an angelic halo around his face, and his top sticking to his torso, as he didn't bother returning the hug. Mingyu didn't mind it, although his own wet hair tried to get the best of him.
It'd grown longer, like Wonwoo wanted, in the past few months, and his natural black hair was back. The longer strands stuck to his forehead, a few poking into his eyes. Mingyu annoyedly wiped them away, making sure he didn't let Wonwoo know his irritation with the weather.
Wonwoo wrapped his arms around Mingyu, and he looked up, resting his chin on Mingyu's chest. There was a soft, appreciative smile on his lips, leading Mingyu to involuntarily break into a smile too.
"Hi," drawled Wonwoo.
"Hey,"
Wonwoo felt exceptionally small in Mingyu's grip. Maybe it was his clothes clinging onto him, highlighting his tiny frame. His real life pocket-sized person. He simply stared at Wonwoo, taking in his face, which he thought he had memorised perfectly, but ended up finding something different each time. Not necessarily new, but the slight changes in Wonwoo didn't go past Mingyu unnoticed.
"Happiness looks beautiful on you, Sunshine," Mingyu admitted, planting a kiss on Wonwoo's forehead, tightening his hold on him.
The chilly weather did a poor job at hiding Wonwoo's blush, although his cheeks and nose had already gone pink. "You made me realise that," he smiled.
As he said so, Mingyu was already leaning down to connect his lips with Wonwoo's, unwrapping his arms from him and holding his face that easily fit in his palms. He kissed him deeply, once, twice, and still kept going, pulling away every now and then, simply to see the look on Wonwoo's face. He'd kissed him so many times, yet he felt the burst of tender emotions every time he did so. Mingyu called himself an addict, for he couldn't imagine life without Wonwoo.
Wonwoo softly looked up at him, and craned his neck upwards to lock his and Mingyu's lips again. A wave of triumph washed over him when Wonwoo smiled into the kiss, his hands flitting loosely over Mingyu's back.
Mingyu pecked his lips over and over again, not wanting to lose the connection just yet. The day suddenly felt like an important one; Wonwoo had admitted that he was happy. Forever, Mingyu hoped. The amount of time he spent worrying about Wonwoo tormenting himself about his past scared him.
"I love you,"
"You make me happy, Mingyu,"
That was all Mingyu wanted to know.
