I stared at the shattered remnants of my room, my breath coming in ragged gasps. Moonlight streamed through the broken window, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The room bore the scars of my rage: furniture upturned, curtains torn, and shards of glass glittering like fallen stars.
"How could he?" I whispered, raw anger gnawing at the strings of my heart. "How could Christian keep this from me?"
The revelation had struck me like a thunderbolt. The knowledge had come crashing down on me earlier this evening, leaving me reeling. Worse still, Christian had known. He had known for years and had said nothing.
"Rose?" Alex's hesitant voice came from the doorway. My friend stood there, eyes wide with concern. "Are you okay? We waited for you, but you never came to find us."
I shook my head, unable to form words. The betrayal cut too deep. I turned away, unwilling to let Alex see the tears that threatened to spill.
Alex stepped inside carefully, avoiding the debris. "Rose, talk to me. What happened? Did he freak out?"
"He lied to me," I choked out. "All this time, he knew. Christian knew we were twins, and he never told me."
Alex's eyes widened in shock. "What?"
"Alex, Christian knew all along that we were family," I said bitterly. "He didn't want to explain anything to me. Just said it's not like it seems. What does that even mean?"
Alex reached out, but I pulled back. "I can't stay here tonight. I need to get out of this room, out of this place."
He nodded with understanding. "Come on, let's go. Arabella and I were just about to leave."
Alex walked over and sat beside her. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I just... I don't understand," Rose said, her voice breaking. "Why didn't he tell me?"
"Maybe he thought he was protecting you," Alex suggested gently. "Sometimes people keep secrets for what they think are good reasons, even if it ends up hurting more in the long run."
Rose shook her head. "I can't stay here tonight, Alex. I need to get out of the Academy, even if just for a little while."
Alex nodded, understanding. "Then let's go. Arabella and I will come with you."
We quietly left the Academy, the night air cool against my skin. The forest beyond the Academy walls was dark and inviting, offering a temporary escape from the turmoil inside me. Arabella joined us at the gates, her expression one of solidarity and concern.
We walked in silence, the only sound of the rustle of leaves and the distant call of nocturnal creatures. Eventually, we reached the small cottage, Arabella's proud home. It was a cozy, familiar place, and for a moment, I felt a semblance of peace.
I stood under the hot stream of the shower, letting the water cascade over me, washing away the day's turmoil. The steam enveloped me, creating a small sanctuary where I could breathe and think. I lingered, allowing the warmth to soothe my muscles and the rhythm of the water to calm my mind. Christian's betrayal still burned in my heart, but for now, I just needed a moment of peace.
After drying off, I slipped into the soft clothes Alex had left for me: an oversized t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. They were too big, but they were comfortable and smelled faintly of him, offering a sense of security. I took a deep breath, steadying myself, and stepped out of the bathroom.
Alex was waiting in his room, sitting on the edge of the bed. He looked up as I entered, his eyes filled with concern and something deeper, something that made my heart ache a little less.
"Feeling better?" he asked softly.
I nodded. "A little. Thank you for this, Alex."
"You don't have to thank me," he said, standing and taking a step towards me. "I just want to make sure you're okay."
I looked at him, my eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and lingering pain. "It's just... everything feels so messed up right now."
Alex reached out, taking my hands in his. His touch was warm and reassuring. "We'll get through this, Rose. Together."
I squeezed his hands, drawing strength from his presence. "I know. I just... I need you right now."
"I'm here," he whispered, pulling me into a gentle embrace.
We stood like that for a while, holding each other, until I tilted her head up to look at him. Without a word, I leaned in, lips brushing against his in a soft, tentative kiss. Alex responded immediately, his kiss tender and full of unspoken promises.
The kiss deepened, becoming a slow dance of shared longing and comfort. Alex's hands moved to my waist, pulling me closer, while my fingers tangled in his hair. Each touch, each kiss, was a silent reassurance that we had each other, no matter what.
When we finally broke apart, we were breathless. Alex rested his forehead against mine, his breath fanning my lips.
He guided me to the bed, and we lay down together, limbs entwined. His touch was gentle, his fingers tracing soothing patterns on my skin. We kissed again, slowly, savoring each moment. The world outside faded away, leaving just the two of us in our private haven.
As the kisses grew more urgent, the heat between us intensified. Alex's hands roamed over my body, exploring the curves and contours with a reverent touch. I responded in kind, hands sliding under his shirt, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath my fingertips.
They moved together with a rhythm that spoke of familiarity and deep connection. Alex's touch was both tender and insistent, his lips tracing a path from my mouth to my neck, igniting sparks of desire wherever we touched. My breath hitched, a soft moan escaping my lips as he found the sensitive spot just below my ear.
Alex's eyes met mine, dark with desire but also filled with a tenderness that made her heartache in the best way. "Are you sure?" he asked, his voice husky.
"Yes," I replied steadily. "I need this. I need you."
With a reverence that made my breath catch, Alex kissed me again, deeper this time. We moved together, bodies entwined, finding solace and passion in each other. Every touch, every kiss, was a promise of support, a reminder that everything was gonna be okay.
