"What do you know?" Calvin articulated every word. Felix could tell he was growing frustrated, hell they all were. Everyone in the room felt the tension build and didn't know what to do with the excess energy that bubbled. That was everyone except Ethan, who seemed to enjoy staying silent and watching Felix and Calvin yell at him.Ethan had an additional bruise forming on his upper brow from where Felix had hit him. He said he hoped it knocked some common sense into him.
Olivia had stayed silent and in the corner most of the time, observing. She would flinch every once in a while when a loud sound would reverberate through the room or when Ethan would throw snide remarks toward her. Most of the time, she didn't react to Ethan other than a sigh or a blink that noted her discomfort. Felix couldn't gauge how she was fairing, but he only guessed that anger and bitterness were mixed as she stared at Ethan with the rage of a thousand suns.
They were all tired. They should regroup, take a bit to relax and maybe sleep, and continue when Ethan was ready to talk. Which likely would be never. Talking in circles was going to get them nowhere. The wolf before him was even more aggravating than the twins were to Felix. But they were running out of unknown time.
Ethan leaned back in his chair, a smug expression plastered on his face. The silence in the room was deafening, tension hanging thick in the air. Felix's patience was wearing thin, and he could sense Calvin's frustration reaching a boiling point.
"Come on, Ethan," Felix said, his voice low and dangerous. "You have one last chance to tell us what you know. Don't make this harder than it has to be."
Ethan's smirk widened, his eyes glinting with a mix of amusement and defiance. "Why should I tell you anything? You're just a couple of self-righteous mutts playing pretend. Any alpha or beta would have killed me by now." He looked at Olivia, a sneer on his lips. "Or is it your human pet, stopping you?"
Calvin's fist slammed against the wall, the sound echoing through the room. "Enough of your games, Ethan! If you don't start talking, we'll make sure you regret it."
And that's what it was, a game. Ethan knew how much they needed the answers he had and by killing him would have left them back at square one.
Ethan's gaze flicked to Olivia, who stood silently by the wall, her arms crossed over her chest. "What about her? Does she get off on seeing others get hurt too?"
Felix's eyes darkened, a growl rumbling in his chest. "Leave her out of this."
"I'm not here to watch," Olivia spoke, her expression hardening and voice slightly hoarse. "So start talking, or I'll make you wish you had."
Ethan laughed a harsh and bitter sound. "You think you can intimidate me, little girl? You don't know what you're up against."
Olivia's eyes narrowed, her voice cold and steady. "Try me."
The room fell silent again, the air charged with unspoken threats. Felix could feel the tension mounting, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He knew they were running out of time, and they needed answers now.
"Try you?" Ethan shook his head and barked out a laugh. "I don't want you as my fucking pet, especially if you're being tossed around."
Felix froze as Ethan's words washed over them, poisonous and cruel. Felix felt his blood boil, his fists clenching at his sides. He glanced at Olivia, who stood motionless, her face contorting into confusion. He forgot how desolated she was growing up, not knowing how hurtful his words were.
Calvin moved before Felix could react, grabbing Ethan by the collar and slamming him back against the wall. "You disgusting piece of shit," Calvin snarled, his voice low and deadly. "How dare you speak to her like that?"
