Jenna's POV:For some reason, ever since I got here, I keep waking up at the ass crack of dawn. I hate it.
Since it's Saturday and we don't have practice today, I'm going to head to the athletic center to practice on my own. Might as well since I have the whole day in front of me.
Cheyenne was already awake, lounging in the living room.
"Morning, Chey," I greeted her, grabbing my gym bag.
"Morning, Jen Jen. You heading to the gym?" Cheyenne asked, stretching out on the couch.
"Yeah, might as well since I'm already up." I admitted.
"Mind if I join?" Jade piped up, trudging out of her bedroom.
"I would also like to come." Cheyenne spoke.
"I'd love for you guys to go!" I said with a smile.
I pulled up Tik Tok while I waited for the girls to get dressed, and they came out about five minutes later in their gym clothes.
We make our way down the hallway and get to the elevator. We press the down button and wait for it to come to our floor. As it opens, Reagan comes into view, gym bag slung over her shoulder.
"Hey, where are you guys off to?" Reagan asked.
"We're heading to the gym for a workout," Jade replied. "Wanna go?"
"Absolutely. I was just about to head there myself," Reagan said.
The four of us decide to pile into my car once we get down to the parking garage, and I drive us to campus while Jade is on aux. She's always playing some intense rap playlist.
We arrived at the athletic center and head straight to the basketball wing. We dropped our bags in the locker room and headed to the weight room first.
"So, what's the plan for today?" Jade asks, loading weights onto a barbell.
"I was thinking we start with weights, then hit the court for a two on two?" I replied, adjusting the bench press.
"Sounds good. I need to work on my passes before preseason starts," Cheyenne says, setting up her own dumbbell rotation.
Jade and I start with bench presses, each of us taking turns spotting the other. Jade is still on aux and playing her supposed 'famous' workout playlist.
"I think you might be Lil' Wayne's biggest fan, Jade." I said with a laugh.
"If only he knew that." She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
"Ew he's like four feet tall and fifty years old." Cheyenne calls out in disgust as I finish my set.
"That's not true! He's fourty one, and five five." Jade yelled, stepping up to the bench, while flipping Cheyenne her middle finger.
As we continue our weightlifting session, Reagan chats with us, keeping the mood light.
"So, how are your classes going?" Reagan asks us, adjusting her grip on the barbell.
"Not bad, just the usual first-week bullshit," Jade replies.
"Agreed," I say. "I'm already behind on some reading for my honors Physiology class."
"God damn! I couldn't be bothered to take an honors class, good for you Jen!" Reagan commended me.
"Tell me about it," Cheyenne groaned. "I've got a paper due next week that I haven't even started."
After our hour and a half weightlifting session, we grab our water and head to the court.
"Alright, who's ready for a game?" I asked, feeling the adrenaline of competition slowly seeping in.
"Let's hope my arms don't fall off," Jade said, bouncing the ball on the court. "How are we splitting the teams?"
"Jenna and I versus Jade and Reagan?" Cheyenne suggests.
"Sounds good to me," Reagan agrees.
We started with a quick game to five, alternating possessions. The shit talking between us made the game enjoyable, and it felt good to play without the usual pressure.
"Nice shot, Grammy!" Reagan called out as Cheyenne missed a mid-range jumper.
"Oh, shut it!." Cheyenne flipped her off.
It's nice to just focus on basketball and have fun.
"Jade, you're killing it with those assists," Reagan said, catching a pass and making a quick shot.
"Yeah, I bet my assist record doubles yours" Jade replied with a grin.
Cheyenne and I took a break, sitting on the sidelines to catch our breath.
"This is nice, just playing for fun," Cheyenne said, taking a sip of water.
"Yeah, it's been an interesting week. I needed this." I agree.
Reagan joins us, plopping down next to Cheyenne.
"So, any plans for the rest of the day?" she asked.
"Not really. Just thinking about relaxing. Maybe catch up on some homework," Jade replies, stretching her legs as she collapses onto the floor.
"Same here. I've got a paper due next week that I should probably start, and I really should catch up on my reading." I admit.
"Ugh, I don't want to talk about school!" Cheyenne groans.
After five more minutes, we resume our game, switching up the teams for variety.
"Reagan, have you checked out that new surf shop yet?" Jade asked, dribbling the ball as we set up for a play.
"Not yet, but I've heard good things. We should all go this weekend," Reagan suggests, passing the ball to Cheyenne.
"I'll go," Cheyenne said, catching the ball and making a shot. "I don't need a surfboard but I do need an excuse to go shopping."
"Same," I add. "I'm always down for shopping."
After a few more rounds, we decide to call it a day. We head to the locker room to freshen up, the conversation continuing to flow easily.
"Hey, Jenna," Reagan says as we packed our bags. "How's it been adjusting to a new school? I know transferring can be tough."
"It's been a little hard," I admit. "But having you guys around has made it a lot easier. I'm glad I've got such a supportive team."
"We're glad to have you," Jade said, giving me a nudge as she walks up from behind. "You've already made a big impact."
"Thanks, Jade." I replied, feeling a warmth in my chest.
We gather our things and headed back to the apartment.
"I kinda want to go to the beach tomorrow, do you guys want to go too and we can stop by the surf shop after?" Cheyenne said.
"I'm in," Reagan says immediately.
"Sounds good to me," I agree. "A beach day sounds perfect. Don't really get those in Michigan." I laugh.
Back at the apartment, we said bye to Reagan as she heads up to her apartment and Jade, Cheyenne, and I settle in the living room, chatting and laughing. It's truly a nice break from the usual routine, and I feel even closer with them. Honestly, I already feel closer to them than I did to any of my teammates at Tech.
"Here's to more mornings like this," Cheyenne said, raising an imaginary glass.
We all laughed, and clink our fake glasses. It was moments like these that reminded me why I loved being part of a team. And now coming to love this team.
Filler chap, hope you don't mind:)
