A corrosive poison in the mind's dark lair,
Coveting what others possess, leaving peace a rarity.
Contentment eludes, as comparison's cruel game,
Erodes the self, consumes with jealous flame. The soul's true worth is diminished, overshadowed by want,
As envy's voracious hunger denies the self's true grant.
Reason bows before the green-eyed monster's reign,
Blinding the heart to the blessings it does contain. In the endless pursuit of what others have gained,
The self is distorted, its identity strained.
Discernment fades, as the focus turns outward,
Neglecting the inner wealth that should be revered.Relationships suffer, empathy cast aside,
As envy's insatiable need becomes the self's new guide.
Potential lies dormant, dreams left unmet,
In the shadow of others' success, the spirit's light is upset.Yet, within this corrosive grip of envious desire,
A whisper of truth may still weakly aspire -
The realization that true fulfillment lies not in what we own,
But in the acceptance of the self, as a unique seed that has grown. For in the end, the path of envy leads to a barren place,
Where the soul is consumed by the need to emulate and replace.
True abundance lies in the embrace of one's own worth,
Honoring the gifts that within the self have found their birth.
