The 7 Sins: PRIDE

An inflated sense of self, a lofty perch on high,
Casting judgment on those who do not meet the prideful eye.
Arrogance replaces humility, as the spirit swells with conceit,
Oblivious to the flaws that within the self do deeply retreat.

Reason bows before the tyranny of an ego unchecked,
As compassion and empathy are ruthlessly neglected.
The self becomes the center, a fortress of unassailable might,
Blind to the needs of others, their struggles and plight.

In the pursuit of status, of dominance and acclaim,
The soul's true essence is buried, its virtues left untamed.
Discernment fades, as the pride-filled heart grows cold,
Dismissing the value of those whose worth is not controlled.

Relationships suffer, connections severed by disdain,
As the prideful spirit refuses to ever stoop or wane.
Potential lies dormant, opportunities passed by,
In the shadow of an ego that refuses to ever be denied.

Yet, within this burden of untempered pride,
A glimmer of truth may still manage to reside -
The realization that true greatness lies not in ego's sway,
But in the humble embrace of the self's own imperfect way.

For in the end, the path of pride leads to a lonely height,
Where the self is isolated, its vision obscured by its own blinding light.
True strength is found in the courage to acknowledge one's flaws,
And in the grace to embrace the humanity that within all has its cause.
