MADELINE'S POV: clarke, finn, and wells set off to go look for seaweed in the forest, claiming that it's antibiotic properties were what was used in jasper's poultice. clarke thought that she could give that to him through a tea or hot drink. we let them go.
meanwhile, bellamy and the others were hunting in the forest. octavia, monty, and i were the only ones still with jasper.
"i'm sorry about atom," i told octavia, hoping to start a conversation. she only rolled her eyes.
"whatever. i shouldn't have expected anything less from my brother."
"he's definitely headstrong," i admitted.
"AND A JACKASS!" monty called from a few feet away, where he sat once again tampering with the ark wristbands.
"and a jackass," i added, glancing at monty sideways. "but he can have his good moments."
octavia scoffed. "you've only known him for a few days. when it's been sixteen years, then let's talk again."
clearly, she didn't want my sympathy.
"you're right," i tried, fidgeting with the tail of my braid. "there's definitely a lot i don't know. i was just hoping to make you feel better."
she gave me a half smile. "well, that's more than anyone else has done for me down here."
i happily returned it, when a wave of pounding footsteps began to flood throughout the ship. i scrambled over to the hatch door connecting the two levels, and peered down.
"what's going on!?" i called to the others through the mess of confusion.
"air got thick, everyone's skin started burning!" monroe replied as she coughed into her arm.
"okay! tell about ten people that there's room up here. we need to fit as many as possible inside."
"got it," she replied. "a few just ran inside of their tents. hopefully they'll hold up."
"hopefully," i murmured to myself.
octavia approached me again, her hand gripping my arm tightly. "madeline, my brother is out there!"
immediately, my heart began to race. losing bellamy while he was possibly the glue holding all of us together, along with clarke, would be awful. i took a deep breath and momentarily closed my eyes to steady myself.
"he'll be fine. we'll all be fine," i reassured her, as i pulled her in for a hug. she immediately accepted it, and we pulled apart a few seconds later. "hopefully they somehow met up with finn and the others."
"that would be the best case scenario," monty cut in, having abandoned the wristbands for a second time. "which also means it's highly unlikely."
i glared at him. "thanks, captain obvious!"
he only laughed nervously in reply and shrugged.
murphy and some other kids i didn't recognize bounded up the ladder. he stopped when he got to the top, his mouth quirking up into a mean grin. "this should be fun. princess part two."
