MADELINE'S POV:
after running for hours (it was probably twenty minutes), i stopped short to catch my breath. i leaned forward, choking on the humid air around me. as a reflex, my hands went to my knees as my body hunched over. kane would have probably tased me if he had seen my horrendous posture, but most definitely would have broken his back if he had tried to run like i just did. i smiled at the thought. i really was losing it.

after calming down, i noticed a silver disc by my right foot on the ground. it looked to be nailed shut with heavy metallic bolts. i was automatically reminded of the hatch door on the dropship, only this looked like the entrance to a bomb shelter, based off of where it had been placed. someone had probably built it before the war.

in front of the circular mass was another little grey pebble and a note. my eyes widened as i picked it up and saw that it had been scribbled in real ink and that the paper was neatly cut and painfully white. i silently hoped the other resources kept hidden here were also in as good condition.

i don't know how many madeline's there are on the ground, but hopefully this reaches the right one.
knock.
-finn

i mentally facepalmed and began to kick at the door with my foot. i stepped back, hoping that they would answer quickly.

it only took a few moments before the hatch was moved aside. clarke's face appeared, looking more tired than usual. i tried my best to smile warmly, but probably just looked stupid. "i'm glad you guys made it okay."

"i told you that we would." she gestured with her hand for me to follow, and soon we were both safely down a ladder and standing on a concrete floor. neatly stacked shelves lined the walls of the large room we occupied, bursting with old cans of expired food and other survival necessities. i glanced around hopefully, picking up a metal cylinder with my hand. the expiration date was fifty years too late. i set it down, and allowed clarke to lead me to a small sofa where finn sat, dozing off. charlotte was asleep on top of a mattress on the ground, blankets piled around her like a fortress.

i reached out for a stray pillow and threw it at finn's chest. he instantly jolted awake, alarmed, but relaxed when he saw me.

"look who's finally joined us." his eyes wandered to the space behind me, as if expecting someone to be there. and then i remembered.

"where's bellamy?"

i shifted my gaze to a candle resting on a small coffee table in front of finn. i watched as the melted wax pooled at the bottom of its container.

"i left him in the woods."

clarke turned, and i heard her boots hit the floor. "you left him in the woods? madeline, there could be grounders out there right now!" she exclaimed.
