MADELINE'S POV:
"i'm fine."

for the past ten minutes, jasper had been conducting a sobriety test on me.

"now walk in a straight line, but on one foot," he advised.

i raised an eyebrow at his request. "how is that even possible?"

raven laughed. "i don't think jasper is sober enough to be asking anything of anyone."

i did my best to hop on one foot in a straight line anyway. i wasn't completely back to myself, i still felt pretty loopy and exhausted, but much better than i had been before.

"how long was i asleep for?" i asked raven.

"two hours at most. i have no idea how you bounced back this quickly, to be honest."

"i think i do," bellamy pointed to the mess i had made a few feet away. i rolled my eyes and tried to keep from laughing.

"we should really get going," i said instead. "clarke and finn might be in trouble."

"would it be the worst thing if clarke was?" raven said sarcastically as she gathered her supplies together. i averted my eyes from bellamy slinging his gun over his shoulder. distractions were the last thing i needed.

instead, i stared at raven for a moment, unable to believe she had actually said those words aloud, until she looked away. without saying anything else, we headed for the woods.

hopefully, we would be there to help in time.

we trekked for about two hours. it was early morning by now. my head had begun pounding at a steady rhythm, and jasper didn't appear to be feeling any better than i. raven and bellamy seemed alert, and led the way. finally, a small bridge with an iron railing came into view. on it stood clarke and finn with octavia.

"what's she doing here?"

i was shocked to see the other blake sibling as much as anyone else. it was true that octavia had been all over the place lately, and that she was fond of the grounder and probably helped him escape, but i understood why bellamy had tensed anyway. he reached for his gun but didn't aim it yet. we couldn't blow our cover.

octavia began to run across the bridge. finn and clarke didn't go after her, only stayed and watched, their mouths halfway open. the grounder that we had kept captive at camp appeared from the other end of the path and jogged to meet octavia in the middle.

they embraced tightly. the man lifted octavia easily off of her feet and held her close for about a minute.

"i guess we know how he got away," raven commented. i couldn't believe what we were watching.

the grounder put octavia down and stared at her with an affection i didn't know was possible from someone like him. he then glanced ahead, and saw the others. he didn't look hostile, but definitely not happy about their presence.
